Aomei Backupper - How To Use With A USB Backup ?

First of all apologies for sounding ignorant but I am hoping you will be able to walk me through using Aomei Backupper FREE with an image on a USB.

I have used Aomei Backupper for 10 to 15 years by creating bootable media (CD) and then restoring from an image that has been put by me on another partition of the drive. This has nearly always worked for me although i realise a system image should not be placed on the same drive in case of damage.

I have recently changed my BIOS boot order to USB first then CD/DVD Drive. I have no idea on how a USB restore should be accomplished. Is it a question of booting straight from the USB to do a restore. Do I still need the CD bootable media and then pick the (plugged in) USB drive from the list in restore mode ? If this were the case I probably won't see the USB drive because when creating the bootable media I only get an option to add USB for printing option to the disk.

I suppose I could just continue using the method that I am userd too.

Your approach saving the image files on your internal disk is not a safe one.
    It means
    - if your system was infected, your image files could be too.
    - if your internal disk failed- you would lose your image files too.
    - if your PC was stolen- you'd lose your image files.
    etc.

Save image files on removable disks and store them securely and separately.

Plug in the disk containing your image file(s).

Assuming you were restoring the O/S and needed to boot from your AOMEI boot disk, then you would do that.

    System Restore with AOMEI Backupper

At step 2, you would browse to the USB disk and select the image file.

Simple way to look at this:

    a. you need a program to run- that's your AOMEI bootable disk.
    b. that program needs data to perform a restoration. That's the image file you created on the USB disk.

    There are Youtube videos...

    I dont understand that sentence.

You can create bootable media on a cd or on a usb.

You can boot either the bootable cd or the bootable usb and from there browse to wherever the image file is.

You can store the image file on a hard disk or on a usb stick.

In reply to Dalchina. If I create the bootable disc either linux based or PE environment my main cocern is if I had the USB plugged in would the USB be recognised in the recovery environment or does the programme require additional drivers to load the system image from the USB ? Sorry if this is a basic question that I should know the answer too.
I have nothing of significance to lose if my hard drive fails I have many machines. no family pics or videos etc.. My only concern in this respect is if my laptop got stolen with all my email accounts.
I realise the next bit is OT but I have a 10 year old digital camera with thousands of pics on it from over the years. Unfortunately I didn't back it up. My downfall was accidentally messing with it on my computer. I forgot that I had write protection on the SD card and whatever it was I was trying to do corrupted the SD card making it totally unusable.

I would expect it will work as this is a typical requirement for the program. It's a long time since I used it as I use Macrium.
Plus there are guides referring to this typical scenario. Try it.

concern in this respect is if my laptop got stolen with all my email accounts.
I would have thought this is only a potential issue if you have an email client on your PC, with contact data and emails on your disk.

Sorry to hear about your SD card. Whilst you can try recovery programs, you may be unlucky.

Thanks for replying. I will try and do a test run. Regarding the link you posted regarding Aomei Backups I read through it all quickly including the linked pages, no mention of drivers at all.

As regards my emails I am concerned as the email client doesn't encrypt the passwords unless the programme has been changed in a recent update.

I find Aomei Backupper the simplist to use. Started back in 2000 with Acronis True Image which in those days was similar to Aomei. Progressed from Acronis to Paragon which was IMO more complicated than it needed to be, and hasn't changed much since .I am very happy with Aomei Backupper, never let me down ...............when I use it correctly.

    yes

Do I still need the CD bootable media
    no

If the cd works for you , then you could create the usb from the cd.

    1. format the usb stick as fat32 in disk managament
    2. put the cd in a cd/dvd drive and the copy these folders to the usb stick
