New to Backup and Restore - Unsure on the Basics

I've just purchased Macrium Home 8. For years (many, many years), I've only backed up user files. I've never created rescue media or made system images. This is all new to me and I'm not sure of the basics.

Two days ago, we had an extended power outage. When power was restored, my Windows 10 (21H1) would not boot. The error message was "inaccessible boot device." After fooling around for a bit, I was able to boot into safe mode and then restart into full mode. Everything now works but the experience was unnerving.

So, here I am with my shiny new copy of Macrium 8 and a ton of questions.

I made a USB PE rescue device. I want to make a full system image to an external USB hard drive.

If I encounter another "inaccessible boot device" error message, I assume the first thing to do is turn off the computer and boot from the USB rescue device. Is this correct? Should I then restore the system using the image on the external USB drive?

What do I do if the internal system drives fails and has to be replaced? How do I restore the system to a new internal system drive?

I know these are really basic questions but any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

You would boot the PC with the Macrium boot USB then within the recovery environment choose restore & then the image you wish to restore, then allow it to complete & reboot the PC.
You can also use to Fix Boot problems of the recovery environment to report the boot. If you receive a boot missing error I would try this first.

To recover to a new drive the instructions are the same, boot from the USB & choose restore the image, choose the new drive & allow it to continue.
If the new drive is smaller or larger then you can drag & drop the partitions & Macrium will automatically resize them.

There are lots of guides on Youtube which you might wish to have a look at.
