    Number of partitions?

    Good afternoon

I've just cloned a Hdd onto an SSD on the HP laptop we've been given by my parents (previously upgraded the memory) to help speed the laptop up. It would appear there are 6 partitions on the hard drive.
I'm presuming other than the main for the OS that these are because my parents still have a profile on the pc and we've added a new one?

Will there be any benefit in removing some of the partitions? I didn't alter any of the sizes originally when i cloned, should i have (yes i should i know) but does it really matter? i can still change them when its installed

will i need to make any settings in the bios when removing the existing and installing the SSD.

    thanks all

Hi, you will need to post a screenshot of the partitions on the disk.
This is best done using a 3rd party partition manager such as Minitool Partition Wizard. Upload your screenshot thus:

    - tutorials available if needed.

Apparently you are using Win 7 according to your specs. Please confirm your query relates to Win 10.

    - no.

There are numerous threads on issues relating to cloning and booting problems which you can use as a research basis.

    Thanks.

For interest, here's an explanation of WinRE
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ical-reference

I believe you have 2 redundant recovery partitions, and at first glance, probably no factory reset partition.

This is a UEFI installation, so I would have expected there to be a System Reserved partition, typically 16Mb. However that is optional for practical purposes.

D: has presumably been created as a data partition, unless it's a leftover factory reset partition.

    Thank you for your reply

presumably the redundant ones are 1.7gb and 350mb?

Should there be a System Reserved partition - does there need to be?

Are there any issues leaving the hard drive like it is? other than it 'looks' untidy. And expanding the c:) for the new 1TB drive

If you're not stuck for space, you can leave it as is.
Checking which recovery partition is in use is as easy as
    reagentc /info
    at an admin command prompt.

You can explore the content of those partitions using Minitool PW.
The creation dates also show you which is the most recent.
