    System Restore Failed ! - Destination:AppxProgramDataStaging ???

    I'm just pissed off .

    First Post -

I'm trying to complete a Windows Restore, because I keep ****ing getting Blue Screen and I have tried A LOT of things. (Spent 8 Hours on YT Vids , Forums , Diagnostic Tools Ect).

    Basically -

I want to Jump back to a 30th August 2021 , Automatic Restore Point , because I think everything was running smoothly then.

I have tried restoring 4 or 5 times before , to different restore points but none of them are working.

Now i've tried the earliest point (30th August) and It's saying:

    System Restore Failed ! - Destination:AppxProgramDataStaging ???-1.png

    i'm so confused.

Here's an image of the previous restore points too...

    System Restore Failed ! - Destination:AppxProgramDataStaging ???-2.png

    ......

Later on . i'm going to attach to this thread , a link to a thread im going to make about my constant and excessive blue screen of death errors , it may be of relevance ?

    Build Number:19043.1237

I feel terrible. why is Windows 10 so complicated.

Here Are the Steps I have taken to try and solve this , but still nothing has worked.

I've just gone through lots of steps to give myself access to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\AppRepository.

I have even gone through the effort of running all these commands both , On normal and in safe mode:

    sfc /scannow
    Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    not working.

    I then tried:

    cd C:\Program Files
    takeown /f WindowsApps /r /d Y
    icacls WindowsApps /grant “%USERDOMAIN%\%USERNAME%”F) /t
    attrib WindowsApps -h
rename WindowsApps WindowsApps.old (THIS LAST COMMAND KEPT GIVING ME ACCESS DENIED MESSAGE)

    I am now trying :

    Services (Local)

    Volume Shadow Copy -
Startup Type - switched to Automatic .
    Start Button.

    Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider
Startup Type - switched to Automatic .
    Start Button.

I might have replied, but frankly I find the language offensive. Good luck.

The OP may consider disk imaging next time, as the top member often suggests.

Would it not be better to do a Windows Restore , but Choose not to remove my personal files ?

Does the Disk Image make a copy of all the installed programs ?

Disk image copies the complete drive, but not much use now installation is broken. You make images BEFORE OS is broken.

Right now, only option left is to attempt a repair upgrade.

Download latest iso, mount it as a drive, and run setup.exe.

    Backup all valuable data first.

Should have used a decent imaging program like Macrium Reflect. I found System Restore so unreliable I disabled it.

Only an unwise user like me would not use a disk imaging program.

No - an unwise user is one who does not learn from his mistakes.

Try system restore within safe mode. It may or may not work but worth trying.

Unfortunately, I have not yet learnt a lesson, to which I am looking forward.
