    Easeus Todo Backup differential/incremental questions

Hello everyone. I've been having some issues with setting up my backup scheme and I can't for the life of me figure this one out.

So, been using the software on the title for a while. One of my file backups is about 2.5TB. Now, older versions of the software (namely 9.x) used to compress that down to 1.6TB even with "normal" compression setting. Newest version (15.x) just doesn't seem to be able to achieve any compression at all regardless the setting.

But I digress, that's not my issue. I am trying to keep that data backed up on a 3TB drive. First full backup works fine. My plan is then to just add one differential image daily, and when it gets too big to fit the drive I would re-do the full backup. For whatever reason, trying both differential and incremental backups just won't work, the software tells me there is insufficient space on the drive. How can that be? What is the exact process that goes on when a task is run? I am assuming it looking for enough space to fit the full backup in, even when just trying to do a differential minutes after the full backup was created with no change in the files.

Is this proper behavior? Or is it a bug? What else could I do to keep an automated backup of 2.5TB on a 3TB drive without having to manually delete the older one and running a full one again?

During course of doing backups, you need temporary space to hold information. Your disk is quite full, so you need to create some extra working space.

It can't possibly need 500gb worth of temp space just for incremental/differential backups can it? Especially since there is literally zero files to add to those. I'll be trying with different software to see if I get the same issue.

Edit: I just manually made a backup that only just exceeds 1.5TB, so obviously the software is looking for free space equal to the amount of the full backup regardless of whether the task is set to run differential. This is buggy behavior so I'll try a different app.

That is how they work. Their perfomance would slow right down if they simultaneously had to update target files and keep size of temporary files down. This is not buggy behaviour. I doubt any other image backup tool will work any differently.

The real solution to your problem is to buy a bigger backup drive.
