Can you exclude certain files (not folders) from File History

I've been using File History & generally like the way it works. However, if I open a Word file, e.g. Utilities.doc, Word also creates a temporary file, ~$ilities.doc. If I have it open for awhile, File History may back up this file also. Over time, I've found various files starting with ~ or ~$ in File History.

Since these are not files I would ever need as a previous version, is it possible to exclude these files in the first place?

    Thanks in advance.

No, I don't think so - but nor do I think you need to bother. Excel also creates a temporary ~$... file when editing, and I just checked my FH going back to Feb: there are some 80-odd copies of an Excel file I regularly update, and there are no ~$... versions. There are no ~$... word files anywhere in the FH folder.

Even if it did occasionally copy a ~$ file, the space used would surely be negligible?

Thank you for your response. True, I'm probably worrying about something that's insignificant. I found several of those files, but I have File History set to make backups every 1/2 hour in case (when), I screw up a file. However, in the long run, since I store it on a flash drive that's set to delete older files when it's full (which will be several months of files), you're right about not bothering with it.
