Creating a copy/back up of Device Manager

Win 10 installed on a very old Toshiba laptop that is working but full of junk, malware and so on and possibly other nasties, no files or data requires saving.

Is it possible to create a copy/back up of existing device manager and all its contained drivers and so on?

I would like to refresh/reinstall Windows 10 and it would save a whole lot of time searching around again for suitable drivers if Windows generic drivers won't work.

Hi, you can back up drivers with various 3rd party tools (just search). Free.

And here's the tenforums tutorial - from the Tutorial section which I'd encourage you to browse and search:

Backup and Restore Device Drivers in Windows 10

If you still have access to the PC's driver download page at Toshiba, that's another option, should you need to use an old version of a particular driver or some special utility.

    Thanks dalchina.

That all went well, in the end I used the .bat option and copied folder/drivers to a USB stick.

I vaguely recall when LT was upgraded to Win 7 we had a hell of a job trying to get the touchpad and graphic card to work, The LT was old then and Toshiba's support site could not help. One of our children found a solution using drivers for another PC.

Then it was upgraded to Win 10, we didn't have the same issue.

I'm resetting the LT so making sure I had a back up of the drivers, just in case.

My thanks as well to Brink's tutorial and to Matthew for the .bat creation tool.

I have a soft spot for old Toshiba laptops. My System One below dates back to 2011 and got its Win7 upgraded to Win10 on launch in August 2015. It's still in regular use to this day.

Generally the MS-provided drivers work well. As an aside, I was surprised to see that towards the end of last year Dynabook (who bought the Toshiba PC brand) started providing updates for it to Microsoft, which get installed through Windows Update.

    Thanks Bree.

2009/2010, I purchased 3 identical models from a shop in the Tottenham Court Road--might have been Edgeware Road.

2 x black, 1 blue and they were great, well built, I thought and solid construction.

The one I'm resurrecting hasn't been in use for a while, still works tho'.

It is a block, not a round corner on it and with the lid closed it has to be 30mm + thick and my goodness it's heavy, I think they used concrete in its making but sturdy, tough as nails and all 3 LTs were reliable.

I don't know about now adays but Toshiba knew how to manufacture a LT.

I've accumulated quite a collection of laptops since that first one

My bias these days is towards the Dell Lattitude range - solidly built for business use.

I'm not a great advocate of the Dell brand but do recognize they are the brand of choice for many, be it PCs or LT.
