thank you - lastly, do we know if there are tools that perform incrementals both?
AS it hasn't apparently been mentioned, Windows' own File History (Settings>Update>Backup) does incremental backups at the interval of your choosing, to avoid over-writes it appends a date-time to each file name. It only copies new/changed files, and restoring is simple from a rt-clcik in Explorer. The files can also be copied directly from the store (then you have to deal with the tweaked name). I think its brilliant!

oh yes, and have recommended it and set it up for non-techie friends. I can't imagine anything simpler. In my case its belt and braces, as I also use a simple Xcopy script that has hardly changed in the last 17 years.

awesome (consider me another non-techie friend ). I hope you would be open to contributing your process to the site's Tutorial section, unless one is already out there somewhere. thank you.

I don't think a few xcopy lines in a batch file warrant publication!

I use File History in addition to scheduling Reflect backups - 'belt & braces' approach

Hi, if you wish to do that using disk imaging, Macrium reflect (free) provides incremental imaging.

However, as D: is a data drive, you may wish to consider backup programs that support incremental backups, rather than an imaging program.

Cobian backup (free) is one such:
CobianSoft - The home of Cobian Backup

    Easeus Todo Backup (free) another:
    EaseUS Todo Backup

Free version of Macrium Reflect only does differential images. You need paid version to do incrementals. AOEMI Backupper does it for free I believe.
