If you provide the product id, we can check the official recovery media and find out.

No USB3 driver. Using the USB2 cable reduces transmission capacity and defaults to USB2.

    See my post above.
I gave Macrium a try and like it. I was using the Rescue USB that I created, so OS would not be active during the process. The external USB 3.0 drive still has to be connected to the PC USB 3.0 port with a USB 2.0 cable for it to be reconized. I know the transfer speed is reduced with the USB 2.0 cable, which is not a problem because I don't do backups that often. With this cable, is the available current 900ma. from the 3.0 port or will it be scaled back to 500ma. (USB 2.0)? My external drive requires 700ma. and do not want to under power it.

For some external drives it is necessary to use a Y-cable, I have 2 x 2.5" HDDs like that plus 2 CD/DVD drives. One leg of the cable provides power and data and the other leg provides power from a second port.

One issue with USB 3 is many BIOSes provide support for USB 2 but not for USB 3 except maybe those that have combination 2 and 3 ports like newer Notebooks. The OS when loaded has the USB 3 drivers so booting USB can be problematic.

I have a Y - cable (USB 2.0). The only one I could find was a unbranded one made in China. The connectors fit so loose I have been hesitant to use it. I was hoping the power supplied by the 3.0 port would be the same and only the data speed would be reduced with the 2.0 cable.

Update. I made a new Rescue USB on a Win8.1 PC with the external usb drive connected directly to the 3.0 port and now the drive is recognized on the Win10 & Win8.1 PC. I don't know if the Win8.1 had different usb drivers or the external drive being plugged in caused the Rescue USB to install the 3.0 drivers for it during the build.

Probably that W8.1 has the necessary USB3 drivers. When you build the Macrium rescue media it will include drivers that are specific to the machine it's built on - in addition to the standard MS drivers that are already in WinRE.

@Wn10, you have left a visitor message on my profile page. There is no way to reply to you, so I am writing here.
The tutorial is now accessible only to VIP members. An administrator told me the following:

Google is flagging the attachment in the first post as dangerous, so I've had to move the tutorial out of public view.

I don't know that I have the ability to write dangerous codes.

Have you checked your 7/2021 Matthews Preference file through Virus Total lately. It now shows four hits and two of them are with Kaspersky and Zone Alarm. Might be something in the new code that they see as malicious. Just a thought. I'm going to miss the CMD/VBS Scrip thread. WindowsImageBackup USB Issues-mp.jpg
