Hey all!

Crusty here.

Now that I have my three computers working correctly with Macrium and my WD MyCloudEX2 Ultra I have a disturbing observation to report.

I wanted to get this working so that I could schedule imaging without having to go through the process of remembering to connect up a USB drive. Should be painless - right? WRONG!!

Macrium Image Guardian will not, in fact CAN NOT, protect any saved image from tampering, deleting or encrypting if it is saved to my NAS. This is so disappointing in today's threat environment. It has to do, I believe, with the disk formatting. Image Guardian only works with the NTFS disk format. My NAS, as most other such devices, are controlled by a Linux distro. Guess what disk format they use? It is ext4 I believe.

So, I am screwed out of $700 I paid for the NAS or I must return it for a refund.

And, as you mentioned...

Macrium Image Guardian protects your backup files from unauthorised modification.
MIG grants write access to existing backups file for Macrium Reflect 7.1, any image tools
created by us, and optionally, . All other process attempting to update existing MS RoboCopy
backup files will be denied access.
MIG protects local volumes and allows Macrium Reflect 7.1 and later to use the NTFS
protected volume as a shared network resource.

It's seriously bloated, but maybe check out Acronis True Image.
Get the User Guide first ofc.

Acronis does... just about everything, which is why it's bloated.

@crustyoldgeezer -- $700 for a combination of MR7 4-pack purchase and/or NAS purchase?
IMO, MIGs are great for the Russian air force, however, I dropped MIGs on my computers. I keep all full images on ext usb 1tb HDDs in plastic ziplock bags in a tiny floor safe. I connect any particular dedicated 1tb HDD, I do a backup, then disconnect and "re-safe" it.
@Ghot -- I kept my ACTI 2016, nonCloud. It still works, it is a backup of the backup routine.
