Macrium Reflect and NAS devices

Not used to asking for assistance (was a Microsoft MVP for 5 years and was able to help others).

I have a conundrum here that has me stumped and would appreciate any insight/help.

Using Macrium Reflex HOME Edition - paid (7.3.5758) with recovery boot drive. How do I connect to my WD 16 terabyte NAS.

I am able to save the backup image to the NAS using the desktop version of Macrium. When booting from the recovery drive I find no way to connect to the NAS for recovery operations.

What am I missing?

Can you connect to the network from Macrium Reflect rescue? When you make the rescue drive, I believe there is an option to include drivers. Did you include the drive for your network adapter?

I find that I can, in fact, see the network. What I can not see is a way to connect to the Western Digital MyCloud HOME appliance.

I see that there is an entry in Device Manage for WD MyCloud showing a .dll file. I likely need the same on the recovery stick but do not see a way to add it to the list of drivers that will be installed during the build up of wim.

I have been using this MyCloud device for 6 years now but not for imaging purposes. I just used it for manual file backup of movies I ripped from purchased DVD's, pictures, music and my Document folder.

If you had to enable SMB1 in Windows Features to be able to use it, then you must rebuild the Macrium rescue media with SMB1 enabled before you use it to can connect to your NAS. It is not enabled by default.

I did have SMB1 checked when I created the thumb drive.

Informationally, under Windows 10, I earlier created my first Macrium image and saved it to MyCloud. I am also able to access the new image.

After experimenting for three days I have the situation sorted out. The unruly condition was caused by a combination of settings, both in the MyCloud dashboard and in Macrium.

I started with the NAS device (MyCloud). After backing up my precious movies to an USB drive (almost 3 TB) I performed a total reset on the NAS device. I then ran the extended trouble shooting service on the drive (took over 9 hours). I assume that it checked the hard drive sector by sector for errors. No errors were returned, which is amazing because this device has been powered up continuously for almost seven years (I do not use the sleep function as it adds about 30-45 seconds to initial access time). I have got to hand it to Western Digital. I am impressed!

I then went through the configuration settings in the MyCloud dashboard and set everything pretty much as the were originally. I just turned off the Apple crap because I never have, and never will, use anything that they produce.

I then booted up into the Macrium recovery environment, crossing my fingers.

NO JOY!

I then started manipulating various settings in Macrium. I got lucky!

Back in the day of MVP,s we use to tell extremely dense users to RTFM. ROTFL!!! I should practice what I preach and I may have saved 3 days out of my remaining years.

I could not get Macrium to recognize the network share under "backup image". I was continuously asked for a password - even though I set up MyCloud without one for trouble shooting purposes.

I then tried restore, not expecting anything different. I tried to browse to the network share and it was there. When I clicked on it I again was asked for a non existent password. Frustrated. I then typed in the path to the NAS share and pressed enter. NO JOY!

WTF! In desperation, I then clicked the add to list link, The network share appeared below in the box. Macrium searched for, and FOUND, the Public NAS share. I then typed in the path to my private share and clicked add to list. Again, the share was found. I then created a backup to both private and public shares. After verifying the images I knew that I had solved the problem.

I have learned that you are never too old to practice what you preach! (-:
