    clone SSD to usb question


    if i clone my ssd to usb what can be done with the cloned info ?

    1 - lets say my ssd dies can i buy a new one and install windows then plug in the usb and clone from it ?

    2 - lets say my laptop dies and i buy a DIFFERENT model can the usb cloned info go onto it or wont work cause different model laptop ?

    Hi, better to use disk imaging routinely- such programs give you more features, more automation if you wish and multiple dates rather than a single date to restore to should you so wish. Differential or incremental imaging are faster than creating a full image, saving time and space after the first full image.

    E.g. Macrium Reflect (free).

    Then, if your disk dies- you restore a disk image of all Windows' partitions (and any other you have chosen to image as you need).

    If your PC dies, then you will find, quite often mentioned here, that taking a disk from one PC and moving it to another works quite well, as Windows reconfigures the drivers required.

    Thus you can extend that to restoring the image files.

    Both PC's have to be either MBR or UEFI in the simplest case of course. You also then have to consider whether your license is transferable or not.
