TY. It turns out that R7 did write to the portable HDD (that contains the R7 system image written yesterday). There's now a boot folder dated today, which was when I last tried to boot into R7. However, there is no rescue log there, or anywhere that I can find -- including within R (only the install log is there). There is also now a boot folder on C: drive which holds my Win 2004.
Here's what happens: the Lenovo logo appears, CD spins up and accesses data. The portable HDD's light flickers a lot for a short while. Then the Lenovo logo is there forever, everything has ceased and I have to do a hardware shutdown.
Where can I find the rescue log? On the Macrium forums there is a lot of talk about rescuepe.log but nobody says where the are.
Is it true that CDs made by R7 are unreliable? I've run out of USB sticks and don't have any on hand to use today.
