Vista HD into windows 10 laptop Data recover question

ill try and be clear and to the point I have an old laptop HD that was from my old VISTA laptop 2013 approx, just the HD with my old files i had from my old laptop which is dead. I have a new windows 10 )newest version laptop. I tried swapping old hd into the win 10 laptop cannot boot it obviously. my question is. Is there any bios add on or free software i can install on my wind 10 laptop whereas when i swap in my old vista hd and enter the bios i can recover just my personal files from this old vista HD, and have them show up when i swap my wind 10 hd back in , in windows 10? WOuld be excellent if so,,,, I just have the HD, i mean doing this without buying an adaptor or anything to get the files off my old HD. can this be done somehow>?

    You say "recover".

I assume you mean "copy to somewhere".

    Where would the somewhere be?

Can the new laptop hold more than 1 hard drive? Probably not.

Are these just ordinary files (pictures, recipes, video)? Or are they programs or installed programs?

Drive caddies are not expensive: e.g.

It's far more convenient to use one of those - and then keep the drive for other purposes, say, than opening your laptop- which would be of no use unless your laptop can take multiple drives.

    Safer too in some ways.

The problem you will have is that the drivers on the Vista drive will probably not be compatible with your new laptop.
An external enclosure is the easiest, cheapest way... pretty much.

Unless you happen to have access to a desktop computer.

ya dont have a usb stick or alternate desktop computer, errr. so only option pay for an adaptor or some hardware device to do so> ? would be cool if windows 10 had something to boot into bios and just have the ability to read old HDS from previous O/S versions and restore just the basic pictures and files. but i guess im dreaming in 2021, this wouldnt be available fro, the biggest o/s software company to ever exist, in 2012, ahah cheers thanks.. if any options you come across that are just software based let me know thanks in advance.. the Laptop reads my HD it says in bios i put it in just cant boot into it or get into the files

If you can connect the Vista drive to the Win 10 laptop in some way, then obviously the Win 10 laptop COULD see the Vista drive and allow you to copy from it.

But I'm not sure if the Vista laptop drive can be accessed purely by an ordinary USB cable.

It may also need a power source.

I know very little about laptops or laptop drives.

If you want to retrieve files from the Vista drive, why would you have to put it inside the Windows 10 laptop?

Nor do I understand what the BIOS has to do with this.

    No, I guess I don't get you.

    Good luck.
