    Not Able to Backup

I have been having a problem doing a backup which was never a problem in prior years.
I have two 2021 versions of a backup program. With either program, the ending results are the same.
Trying to do a full backup of a 512GB SSD with 208.86 GB Free to an External 2TB Hard Drive with 1.22TB Free.
I tried twice and go the same message. Switch to another backup program and got the same results. “There is not enough space on the destination drive to perform a backup.“ was the error message. I checked the selected location for the drive and found a file of 1,310,519,672kb.
I hope that someone can provide me with an explanation as to why I am having this problem. I have use the Acronis software for many years and never had a problem. This 2021 version made me buy another software which ending without getting a backup.
There must be a reasonable explanation as to why this is happening.
Desktop is a PC with Windows 10 Pro version 20H2 OS build 19042.685

Acronis is the first program you tried.

    What is the other?

Are you attempting to make an image to "back up" your Windows installation? Or other than that? Or more than that?

Are you married to Acronis for whatever reason?

Another version of what please Acronis.?

Surely IMHO the $1000 question is what is this
I checked the selected location for the drive and found a file of 1,310,519,672kb.
which is of course 1.3TB - what is its type - name date etc.
and may I presume that this selected location for the drive means the destination drive for the backup, eg the 2TB drive

I am surprised to see that Acronis True Image 2021 includes

    Antivirus and antimalware protection
Acronis True Image 2021 provides three types of antivirus and antimalware protection.
Active Protection runs constantly in the background to protect your machines in real time while you work as usual.

Antivirus scans run on-demand to perform in-depth search for malicious software throughout the whole system.

Vulnerability assessment is a daily scan that runs in the background, detects vulnerabilities in your system and apps, and then assesses their severity.
Note You can turn the protection on or off in the True Image UI only. You cannot stop the process manually through Task Manager or any other external tool.
Acronis True Image 2021: using two or more antivirus solutions on the same computer is not recommended | Knowledge Base

I have no idea if this, what I think is a new feature, on Acronis Imaging and Backup programs is in any manner responsible for the report you have received.
Why a backup app would include active protection for the system - turned on by default - is beyond me.
That said I am a Macrium user - I just hope they do not go along the same road.

Acronis has always worked well in backups and recovery. I do several systems backups. EaseUS Todo Backup Home was used and I had the same results. It appears that it is not the software. This conclusion is reached because the results are the same. I begin to realize it is my system. But, this same system has worked well over the years and the backups have been updated the faster drives and how to get there. Why are the results of two different software's the same.

    If you answered this query

Can you explain how your 2TB drive has 1.22TB free space yet holds a file that is 1.3TB in size? Your math doesn't work. Fix that and you may get an answer.

When Acronis stops and provides that message of "out of space", this1,310,519,672kb file is what is left in the backup location folder. (I don't know why I can't get our of Bold, sorry.)
I only have Norton for the virus protection and Acronis is not included.
The SSD only has backup for the C Drive. I use other hard drives for data that is not related to the OS.
When I used the other software for backup, that being EaseUS Todo Backup Home, there is only a error message and no attempt at starting a backup.
I get the same results each time I try Acronis and the same when I try EaseUS.
I have presented this twice to Acronis and have not gotten an answer to the issue, but lots of emails asking for additional info which I gave along with pictures of the drives before and after plus pictures of the both disks properties.
I did miss a phone call from them but it was not repeated.

    1. It is difficult to advise you, without knowing what this created file is- other than its size which is all you have told us.
    You say
When Acronis stops and provides that message of "out of space", this1,310,519,672kb file is what is left in the backup location folder
    2. As I asked on my first reply and on post 5
Surely IMHO the $1000 question is what is this
I checked the selected location for the drive and found a file of 1,310,519,672kb.
which is of course 1.3TB - what is its type - name date etc.
    3. If the backup is creating that file, then are you absolutely certain, you are commissioning a backup of ONLY the OS drive which is of course only 512GB in total -
and not including the other drives.

    4. As I said I have never used Acronis but the reviews of this Acronis 2021 are not good
Many people have reported problems that they never experienced with previous versions

    5. Re this:
When I used the other software for backup, that being EaseUS Todo Backup Home, there is only a error message and no attempt at starting a backup.
Any chance that Easeus is still seeing the file that Acronis placed on the drive.

    6. Have you checked the 2TB for errors using chkdsk. If you need the data that is on the drive APART from the file created by Acronis I would backup or copy that to another drive before you run the chkdsk.

You should run chkdsk /f on all partitions on the SSD and chkdsk /r on the HDD. Any unlettered partitions on the SSD should have letters assigned temporarily so that chkdsk can be run on them. Once you have done this try the backup again.

I will run the check disk on the SSD now and try it again.
BTW, don't remember if this was mentioned but in the past I could run a backup with Acronis in less than an hour.
    These failures take 8+hours.
So after the check disk, I run another backup with Acronis. Get back with the results tomorrow.
