Will it either work or not work? Could you potentially get a corrupt recovery console file? I mean flash drives are notorious for failing. Or is the integrity of of the image being restored more important?

    Yes.

You mean with particular hardware corruption that allowed the software to complete the bootup correctly and then to complete the selection & restoration of an image but with a mis-write onto the target disk during that image restoration?
Yes, I suppose that is possible.
    Anything is possible.
But I bet you several beers that it will not happen.

I am still using one that started life in about 2004. From 2010-1017, it was written to daily.
When USB flash drives do 'fail' they generally revert to being read-only. So the boot disk you make today will keep booting even when it has 'failed'.

    Yes.

    As @Try3 has said...

The integrity of the image is the most important. After making a backup, you can choose: Restore > Other > Verify ...to make sure your newly made backup is accurate.

I always use the installed MR program to make the backups.
I always use the MR bootable media to restore from a backup.

Before Macrium, I did the same with Acronis (Win 7), and before that with Norton Ghost (Win XP).

Great answers guys. Yes I do use verify image and it is recommended. I might have mistaken flash drives with SD cards, I once had an SD card that showed as 0 bytes (corrupt MBR). My current flash drives have been fine for the last three years at least. Kingston and Apacer.
