Best way to back up my data

    Hi Experts,

What is the best way to back up my data, which does not recopy entire data but copies the delta changes and also ensure my data is backed up. Hope, I don't have to buy software.

    Thanks in advance

    FreeFileSync, SyncBackFree, Karen's Replicator, Synctoy.

They all work about the same way, but some are easier to understand and have better interfaces.

All you can do is experiment and choose the one you understand.

You'll need to decide if you want "mirroring" or "versioning". If you delete kitty.jpg from the source, do you still want to keep it on the destination?

Maybe you don't want to have your most critical files backed up only by some silly backup program you found on the Internet. So maybe you use 2 or 3 methods for those critical files, including drag and drop to some other drive. It's one thing to back up kitty.jpg with a silly program, but another entirely to entrust your plans for inter-galactic domination to it.

+1 of all previous posters! Along with +1 for this: "...another entirely to entrust your plans for intergalactic domination to it..."
How many computers are you talking about? I ask because Macrium Reflect has a very good 4-pack/family license deal, the cost of the pack greatly drives down the license cost for every single computer. I purchased the 4pack lifetime version 7, meaning if I ever want version 8, I have to pay a discounted price to move from 7 to 8. Right now, I will probably stick with version 7. Only have 2 or 3? Not to worry, save the un-used for later, for family, for a close friend.
Let's get to you and your computers. Do you really want to trust Delta backup and Delta restore of your hard-earned data folders and files to something unknown off The 'Net? Many of us here and across the Windows discussion boards have vouched for: EaseUS Todo, Aomei Backupper, Macrium Reflect, and several others. Along with the folder/file copy utilities mentioned in earlier posts.
Remember: The ONLY reason [universal] you make backups because [universal] you WILL do restores sooner or later.
As the others implied above, well-thought-out, well-planned, well-executed: making of DVD boots and/or USB flash drive boots, making [full/differential/incremental] [mirroring/versioning/GetItAll] image backups and folder/file copies -- probably means relatively trouble-free restores of either OS partitions, data partitions, etc.
Personally, I have for years make full images of C and D partitions onto external USB platter-driven 1TB hard drives, and over the years, had to restore my C partitions using my set of DVD and/or USB boots. D, not near as often.
One of several considerations [universal] you have: Compare the time and effort of making super-solid backups to the time and effort it would take to redownload, reinstall, rebuild, relicense, reset, reconfigure, to get from a FactoryInstall to what you have today.
The decisions you make today will greatly affect the ability and probability of making successful restores.
This is a critcal Chess Game, your move.

Thank you every one. Sorry, I should have been explicit.
I have 2 laptops one ancient and has data and I am working taking help from this forum as it takes 5 minutes to boot up and shut down.
    1. My other is recent ones and I used Lenovo's backup software to a drive. ( I am not sure, if this works only first time or If I can continue to use it).
    2. It is my personal PC, mostly all kinds of downloads and free stuff (Books, Technical Material etc and I do or rather trying to do some programming so that stuff)
    3. No I do not need versioning and only reason, I asked for backing up It takes awful time, every time I copy all my C drive content to USB external drive and some fail to copy.
Did I miss any thing, Yes I prefer most affordable or open source option, If available.
Thank you all and Wish you all Merry Happy XMAS

Hi. What you are looking for sounds like an incremental backup solution that only backs up changed files each time, which undoubtedly save the time and storage space.

If so, you could have a try on Aomei Backupper because it do allow you to implement incremental backup for free. Just set an automatic backup and it will copy only the changed or added files at the scheduled time point (See details about Windows 10 incremental backup). If you prefer to copy files with original format rather than imaging, use Sync then.

    Merry Christmas by the way
