This time last month, if you had installed v8 Free then checked for updates it would show a blank release note, then if you clicked 'download' it would download the v7 installer.

...or at least, it would try (and fail) to downgrade the installed v8 to v7 free.

It seems that Macrium's original intention was to downgrade the v8 Trial version to v7 Free at the end of 30 days. Two weeks ago the Reflect Free download page still said so...

But that has all changed now -not only has the wording been changed to remove the '7'...

....but if you check for updates in v8 Free you now get the proper release notes and it downloads a patch to the latest v8.

That's good. Reverting to a previous version always seemed dodgy.

As I said before, that's exactly what the Beta v8 did at the end of testing, and successfully too. I suspect Macrium wanted to do that for the v8 Trial version too but hit a bug. With v8 Free just around the corner it would be a waste of resources to try and fix it, hence the U-turn

A quick question for all you Macrium gurus please....

I have a DATA drive which needs to be moved to a larger drive. Clone? File & Folder backup? Robocopy?
Which do you recommend and why?
    TIA!

When I've done that Simrick I've always just used copy but Robocopy would probably do a better job. Not needed to do it for some time though.

Thanks guys. I don't trust "copy"; I've got a 4TB going to a 6TB data drive - it has to be perfect. I can't afford failures or missed files or partial files - it has to be perfection. I need 100% confidence in this transfer.

May be worth trying MR clone then.

Interesting Keith. I've never done a clone. Am I correct that cloning will work in this case because @simrick wants to copy an entire drive? Would this procedure work if the data was on a separate partition of a drive or if it was just a Documents folder on a drive?

According to the knowledgebase you can clone a whole disk or specific partitions Cloning a disk - Knowledgebase 8.0 - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase

Thanks, Keith. I should have seen this. I had downloaded the manual for V7 & read it. However, I didn't click the link at the bottom that pointed to this very article. But now I know.
