The restriction there is it only backs up Desktop, Documents and Pictures. The libraries entries. You would need to have all your data nested under one of them to get backed up by this option. Not easy to do for data on an separate drives, i.e. E: as an HDD.

Yeah, One drive is not very flexible. I have moved my One Drive folder to a data drive, You can make junctions into that from wherever you like as per this tutorial Sync Any Folder to OneDrive in Windows 10. it only sort of works because it only syncs properly on startup. Google Backup & Sync is much more flexible. you can specify any folders to back up.

The point is each person has to devise a backup strategy that suits them, and they should categorize data to suit them. There is not really a 'one size fits all' solution.

    Agree.

The only thing I would add, test it occasionally.

Okay. I just mount the image and it looks just like my data drive in terms of folder structure. Easy to navigate.
I do like the idea of File sync.
I use the Windows built-in Robocopy run from powershell script to mirror my data. Works well (used to use Microsoft synctoy). It is pretty fast. I keep my data in a separate partitions than the OS so the OS image backup is quick ( < 5 minutes).

I remember Synctoy. I started out using that before I went to FFS.

I'm still learning about OneDrive, TC, and will be going over the tutorial with a fine-tooth comb today or tomorrow.

Getting back to Macrium, I have a 1 TB Data HDD in this computer, so I don't think it would be too hard to back that up separately.

I use Robocopy on my wife's machine for her data which is added to my data.

All primary machines, wife's included, are backed up to NAS. (Multiple versions kept) I use fulls, incrementals and differentials.

My machine has multiple copies of data. I use online disk, disks that are power on and off for backups and I create offsite copies on SSD's.

I quit using synctoy mainly because it could create some huge files. It keeps a journal of deletions, etc. on the source directory fand acts on those, unlike roboopy that compares source and destinations directly. A consequence of this is that with synctoy in echo mode, you could add directories and files in the destination and they would remain on the destination when syncing. With robocopy they would be deleted since they are not in the source - no equivalent of echo.

For me personally, I use both+Robocopy. I have the paid edition of Reflect, so my incremntal backups take very little time...usually just a couple minutes...and that's with having Reflect verify the backup each time. I backup to an external drive & then also to a flash drive. I use the latter because if someone were to break in & steal my computer & drives, I carry the flash drive with me. I prefer it to online backup.

Mounting an image is quick & I can copy files from it easily. I also have a flash drive attached & use File History, so I have previous versions of most files readily available.

I use FreeFileSync to sync data files to my WinXP computer (& vice versa), so I can easily restore a screw up on a file. By the way, FreeFileSync has a versions option, so that if you do make a mistake on a file (or delete it) & you also sync it to another location (i.e. my other computer) where the mistake or deletion is sync'd, you can restore the file by looking in your versions folder. This also assumes that File History hasn't made a copy that you could go back to.

I manually use RoboCopy to copy certain important data files to an external drive. I know all this sounds complicated, but it works quickly & efficiently...especially if you happen to be someone who makes lots of mistakes.

Wow! Just for a moment, I thought I was in a Macrium 8 discussion thread! It was a fleeting image.

Seriously, I use Synctoy but had to revert back to the x86 flavor. The x64 hasn't been updated since 2009 I think, and it has some serious DLL issues that make it run very very very very slowly. I installed exactly the same Synctoy, but the 32 bit, now it flies!

    Just my 1.5 cents worth..........
