Win 10 How to restore iso when Automatic Repair Tool restricts options

Hello all - new member here.
I have Windows 10 on a HP Desktop.
A couple of days ago my computer failed to boot and went into an automatic repair tool "loop". Nothing in the options worked (repair/logging starts etc) and in the end I reset the PC but kept the files. It wasn't a huge deal as the computer was mainly used for web surfing. I could get into the C prompt but I couldn't remember how to change directory even.

I did have a backup on external hard drive created by Aomei Backupper Free. I had expected to be able just to navigate and restore from that if needed- but the repair tool would not let me do so. I did go back to a restore point but the problem persisted.
My question is - had I been using a fully commercial copy of a backup program - would I have been in the same boat (Carbonite/Acronis True Image etc).?
I have backed up again using Windows 10's own tools but not knowing how long that will be around - I'd like a set and forget option if possible -without the repair tool making life difficult for me.
Any advice appreciated and I am researching this myself too.
    Cheers.

Endless automatic repair can sometimes be fixed.

For back images Macrium is widely used in Ten Forums:

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

You need to be able to understand how these tools work. Aomei Backuper has two separate functions:
    - disk imaging
    - data backup

Assuming you had created an image file of ALL the partitions comprising the Windows O/S (that's typically 4 for a UEFI installation) then in the worst case- e.g. when Windows fails to boot and cannot be recovered but the disk is sound then:

    - create and use the bootable medium for your disk image tool (in your case Aomei Backupper
    - boot your PC from that medium
    - connect the disk on which the image file or files are stored
    - restore partitions from the disk image as necessary

    That's just one possible scenario.

Plenty of youtube videos etc for such tools.
