Is Anyone Really Good With Macrium Reflect?

This is what I"m trying to do. However, I did need step by step instructions on how to get this done and a little explaining along the way. I want to do a complete backup of my C drive. Everything I own is on my C drive even tho I have other drives as well, but my C drive is it. So now after I do this backup of my C drive, every night I would like to just up date the files that I have changed during the day. This way here, I know they are safe in case something ever happen to my computer, I can reinstall it.
Just one minor problem with the backup. So let's say today (Sunday), I changed a few things to my spreedsheet. Then the schedule backup happens and that change is in there. Then on Monday I changed a few things to my spreedsheet again, and that get's backed up. Then on Tuesday, I would like to go back to Sunday and look at that change. I guess what I'm asking is that I don't want anything deleted.

What I'm wondering about is what is the differences between Differential and incremental when it comes to file backup. Currently, I'm using the Free edition as I notice that under this one the only type of back up is Differential Images and I'm wondering if this will work for me?

    Thanks

With differential, you need a differential image and the full image it is based off of. All other differential images are not used.
Differential images are larger than Incremental images.

With incremental you need the incremental image and every incremental image created all the way back to and including the full image.

When you create the first full backup, it must contain all the partitions on the drive.

Incremental vs differential backup: what are the differences and how do they compare to full backup?

I assume you are mainly worried about personal data files like spreadsheets......more than Windows.

You can rely on Macrium for that, but it isn't the most refined application to back up personal files.

Instead you could use a program designed to back up personal data.

If you did that, you would want to configure it to retain older versions of personal files....so you might have versions of that spreadsheet from Sept 1, Sept 4, Sept 22, etc. You'd want to NOT use the "mirroring" capability, which would leave you with only the most recent version of the spreadsheet. Any personal file backup program will let you choose whether you want to "mirror" or not. From your description, you DON'T.

    Would this work?

    Jonnie:

That "works", but it's clunky and not something I'd want to use on a regular basis.

There's no overriding reason to use imaging to back up personal files.

If you fish around in your backups maybe once a month or once a year, maybe you tolerate it's shortcomings.

If you do so frequently, maybe not. I tried it for a week or two and gave up.........although Macrium is still excellent as a system backup (Windows and installed programs).

Macrium can also be used to backup Files and Folders:

I use a program called MirrorFolder to backup data as well as Macrium to do images backups. MirrorFolder runs all the time and backus up different data on different schedules, two hours, four hours, or daily, depending on how i set it up. It's not free, & costs $39 per license. I wouldn't be without it.

What are the best (non-Macrium) apps to do
Files and Folder backup with Differential
    backup capability?

Exactly what do you mean by "differential" with respect to say a file named dog.jpg that you might make on Monday and then modify on say Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday? And then maybe delete on Friday.

Ideally, something that will do what I've been
    doing manually.

Occasionally will do a copy/paste of the contents
    of these folders.

    FOLDERS — Postimages

Then daily copy/paste into a new dated-named folder of the contents of these folders that have a Date Modified date later than the date of the previous folder.

Thus, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday there would be a copy of the file as it existed on that day.

On Friday it would be absent in Friday's backup.

Would want to keep available backups for each day.
