    There is this policy:
Disable create auto restore point /allow manual restore point creation-1.png

    Then there's this scheduled task:
Disable create auto restore point /allow manual restore point creation-scheduled.png

I have mine set to create one daily automatically:

Disable create auto restore point /allow manual restore point creation-daily.png

Given that, I'd suggest why bother stopping the rather limited cases when Windows does create one itself.

While I really do appreciate the effort, it’s not what I was after......I want to disable the windows Auto restore point creation while still being able to a manually create one.....the reason is that windows deletes old restore points when the space runs out, but if I have only my own restore points that shouldn’t happen.....thanks

Try disabling the scheduled task. See what I mean?

I think that is what causes SR's to be created in at least some cases.

To be able to disable automatic creation, you need to know how they are created.

Personally, I don't see the benefit- I showed you how I have several restore points over several days- all created at my behest- and no others created by Windows.

If you want lots of restore points kept- increase space allocated... get a bigger disk..

    See discussion here:
Disable Automatic System Restore Point Creation? Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

There's no guarantee though that certain events might not trigger the creation of restore points by other means- if the feature is active, a program can make use of it. E.g. just by way of examples of other ways to create restore points:
Create System Restore Point using Command Prompt or PowerShell

That means your wish can only be granted by exclusively restricting restore point creation to your chosen means. I don't see how that could be done.

    UPDATE
it seems if I disable Auto SR, it deletes all SR points, so can’t enable disable etc. Will have to leave enabled and hope my custom SR point isn’t deleted, but will mainly rely on MR....just a thought, is there a registry hack to change the Auto SR from 7 days to a much longer time period.....???

Thank you, it would have been good if MS had allowed disabling of Auto creation of restore points, but allowed manual creation. Just because I disable Auto restore point creation doesn’t mean I don’t want to create a custom one from time to time..could enable SR create my custom SE, then disable it again, then maybe will just have my RS.....should work....assuming the ‘system’ doesn’t delete them..just a belt and braces for MR.. it could have been managed better...thanks
