Image of Veracrypt encrypted system drive

I use a laptop with a Veracrypt encrypted system drive (yes I know I could use Bitlocker but no, I don't trust Microsoft when it comes to encryption). Now I want to create an image of the drive using Macrium Reflect booted from a USB thumb drive. Would that work? And if it works, should I use the "normal" mode or the sector by sector copy mode? Thanks in advance for your advice, much appreciated

A image is an exact copy of the drive so should work fine

You should use the sector-by-sector mode. The image file will be large, and a long time will be needed to create it. The normal mode uses info about the file system to compress the image, but this canīt be done if the partition is encrypted.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. It shouldn't take too long though as the drive is only 500 GB.

I would expect about 1.5h if backing up to an external HDD (not SSD) connected through USB 3.0.

Using BitLocker, itīs possible to unlock the partition from the boot UFD, and back it up in unencrypted form.

Thanks but like I wrote I don't trust Microsoft's encryption. They are legally bound to cooperate with US government agencies.

And look what happened to secure boot: Microsoft's "Golden Key" Leak Allows Disabling of Secure Boot. Who says a similar "Golden Key" does not exist for BitLocker?

Just a quick feedback. I successfully created a system image and it looks like everything went as expected. I did a sector by sector copy simply to be on the safe side and Macrium compressed the 450 GB to approximately 250 GB. Thanks again to everybody for your inputs.
