    system restore point 101

    1. why is there only 1 restore point on computer? 1 from a windows update
    2. possibly due to space limit - Why do I never have more than 3 system restore points in my Windows 10 home? I have more than 300 GB storage. - Quora
    3. how do we check how much space a system restore point is taking up? doesnt seem like it'd be pass space limit
    4. if it's cos space limit is too low, then why does windows 10 by default have such a low space limit?
    5. when does windows 10 create a restore point? is it every update? or every big update?
    6. does microsoft explain/show any of this anywhere in any of their help support docs? since it's basic info for all users

    This^

The more storage space you give the more restore points you'll have. I set mine to 5% on my PCs with 1TB storage on my HD. WIndows will create one before each Windows Update. You can also manually create them if you want. I always do right before I either install a new program (and before uninstalling a program), or make a big enough change to a setting or feature.

In my experience, which is mostly on Windows 7:

Maybe 5% of the time, I'd get an error message saying "failed to complete" or words to that effect.........for unknown reasons.

I never had it cause further problems. It was always worth a try and usually helped.

But I've had less reason to use it at all since I went to Windows 10.

It isn't a complete backup as images are. But it's quick and harmless. Just don't count on it to resolve your problems.
