What is the risk of updating Macrium & it fail to restore prev image?

Running: Windows 10 Pro - Version 2004

Hi Everyone! I want to update my registered Macrium Reflect every time it tells me it's available, but I get nervous that it will fail to work with my previously created Macrium Reflect image (of an 8TB drive that I have imaged, a couple versions ago) - has this happened in the past with Macrium Reflect updates? Am I being worried unnecessarily? What is the real chance of this happening?

I can't recall hearing that a new version would fail to restore an image made with a previous version.

Is there an over-riding reason you want to update to EVERY new version?

I think the recovery media needs to be re-done periodically (flash drive or DVD). You might get a hint on when that is required by following the build notes at the Macrium site. But they don't have to be re-done with every new version.

"Is there an over-riding reason you want to update to EVERY new version?" - fair enough...I guess I just am conscious of security and bug fixes that are potentially released that I may miss out on, and need one day, but since my previous image works, I guess that's a non-issue mostly...

Almost negligable in my experience. The image format remains the same with these updates. In fact two years ago when 7.2 came out to replace 7.1 I said...

Actually, just to see if it was possible (or would brick the PC) I made an image with 64-bit UEFI Macrium 7.2 then restored it by booting from a legacy 32-bit Macrium 7.1 usb.

Disappointingly, it worked perfectly

Offhand.............I'd guess there is just as good a chance that the new version will introduce bugs not found in the old one. From the frying pan to the fire.

But Macrium has an excellent record of keeping that to a minimum.

...and a record of fixing it within 24 hours on the rare occasions there is a bug.
