Clone data drive with user folders

I have some of my user folders (documents, music, pictures and downloads) on a different drive (D:) than the OS (C:).
The D: drive is getting a little cramped and i've bought a bigger drive to replace it.
I would like to migrate my data from D: to the new bigger drive and then physically replace the old drive with the new.
I have the software needed. I also have a hard drive enclosure so that i can connect the new drive to my pc via USB and clone the data.

    My question:
If i clone the D: drive and replace it, can i assume that the drive letter would remain the same (D:) and that windows will keep using the folders as before?
Or would i have to re-locate the folders again manually?

the simple way is to use built in robocopy /mirror once you replace the drive if it doesnt show as d its simple to change in disk manager

    Thanks @Samuria

    Just to make sure:
As long as i make sure the folder structure is identical (which cloning or robocopy/mirror should take care of) and the drive letter is the same (which i could change to the correct one in disk manager), windows should not have any problem in continuing using the user folders on the new drive?

There might be a problem down the road if one has to restore an OS from a backup image, with X certain time/date stamp, and, the user profiles, along with My Documents, stored in another backup image, with a different time/date stamp from the OS time/date stamp...or, am I mistaken?

A couple of days ago i cloned the old drive to a newer and larger drive and replaced the old with the new.
Initially the new drive had the "wrong" drive letter, but as @Samuria wrote it was a simple matter to change the drive letter back to D: in disk manager.
I have desktop shortcuts for Documents, Music, Pictures and Downloads (all on the new drive). While the new drive had the wrong drive letter, these shortcut turned to white rectangles. After changing the drive letter and a restart all shortcuts displayed the correct icons.

    @RolandJS
    That's a good point.
I have Documents, Music, Pictures and Downloads on a separate drive, in case i have to restore the OS (I do regular imaging backups of the C: drive). This reduces the size of the images and my docs, pictures, music and downloads are not changed if i do a restore.
I 've restored the c: drive before, while on Win 7, without any problems. I don't recall timestamps being an issue.
I've also used the old data drive directly from my old Win7 pc to the new one, again without any problems.
