Problems booting with cloned disk created with Macrium Reflect

I am puzzled by this, I have been using Macrium Reflect for a decade.
I have several SSDs in the machine, and I run Macrium Reflect clone this disk option. It creates a perfect image/clone. Except that the disk is not bootable. The hardware is MSI Titan GT80 SLI. When I hit F11 during the boot cycle and pick the disk that was created via clone, it says "Your PC needs to be repaired".


I moved the SSD around in various slots, made sure it's the first entry in the BIOS, and the only entry, all to no avail.

It's a perfect copy yet it won't boot, why is that and what am I missing? I did exactly that multiple times with no issues, it used to work.

C is the primary disk and G is the clone disk. Only C boots.

Running:

bcdboot C:\windows /s G: /f UEFI

now I have two entries for the clone drive, need to delete one of them

I used EasyUEFI which is a much better tool than EasyBCD that I've used for a number of years and deleted the bad entries.

Created a new entry using the following - to no avail. When I hit F11 during the boot cycle, I only see the primary boot option, no second one. Apparently it does not create the boot entry with this command.



bcdboot C:\windows /s G: /f

Your command adds boot files (with a bcd entry for windows on C ) onto the partition G.

What is the use of that? Your uefi firmware will only look at the system partition for the boot files.

Follow instructions in my previous post and it should be fixed in amatter of seconds.

That was for the drive letter, which it has no issue with. I am running the AUTO BOOT REPAIR field.

You can't boot from a cloned drive if the original drive is still installed.

That is a problem. Have a look in G:\windows\system32\config and see if you can find the software hive.

If it is missing, as the message indicates, the clone didn't complete properly. You are screwed if there is no software hive.

The second message also indicates there is a problem with the files on G. Further indication that there was something seriously amiss with the cloning process.

I have done it numerous times.

You won't get far without a software hive.
