Need 2TB of cheap cloud storage for my Veritas System Recovery backup

I use Veritas System Recovery 18 to backup up the drives on my Win 10 system. I have incremental and full backup jobs for several drives that run at various times during the day. Right now I backup to an internal drive and to a usb attached sata drive. I would like to also backup up to an offsite cloud location. I looked at iDrive which has some really good prices but you must use their backup software. I can upgrade my Dropbox account but that is expensive for 2TB. The Veritas offsite copy can be a Folder, Network Path, FTP address, or an OpenStorage location.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a cheaper solution. I'm looking for something in the $60 to $70/year, if possible. Thanks.

If your using W10, you have easy access to OneDrive. Don't know what the prices are because I'm happy with what they give me FREE. You don't need any backup tools etc. its integrated into W10 automatically. Access via File Explorer is easy.

For around $100 per year, you can lease MS Office for 5 users, each getting 1 TB cloud storage. You would need to login to different accounts.

Thanks for the replies. For the kind of storage I need, OneDrive only comes with Office which I already have so that doesn't seem like a good option.

I can use Google Drive for about $100/mo by using a product called WebDrive for $60 that allows mapping Google Drive (and others) as a network drive which essentially allows use of the GoogleDrive without the sync.

I am also looking at iDrive which is essentially a backup/sync solution by syncing the folder where the backups are stored to iDrive (rather than having Veritas write directly to the cloud when it creates an offsite copy). However, I have concerns about the sync. Some of the backup files are 200 to 300 gb and can take up to 90 minutes to create. What happens if a sync is attempted during that time?

I started this trek expecting to find cloud storage without all the bells and whistles. Turns out that's a bit harder than I expected.

Re. Office - remember if you buy the peronal version, you can install it on up to five pcs unlike a paid versionwbich is testricted to one PC. Also, it is always the latest version.

I had a look - it appears I am (in a tiny way) already using Google Drive. But it would apparently cost ~£80/year for 2 TB. It seems to backup files from your PC you have to download an app that lets you define the folders to backup/sync (I'm not about to do that). Why not use that? You 'simply' have to tell the app your backup file location - then let it get to work. You could test it using your free 15GB allocation.

Or Dropbox is apparently £8/month for 2 TB (~$125/year).

Personally I'd stick with stuff under my control (and indeed I do).

Confused about this statement. I have NO OFFICE products installed on my system with the exception of an unlocked version of Office 2003. I don't use it much and no need to for the newer versions, but I get emails from Microsoft to expand additional storage that came with W10, for the default amount they provide with W10. Nothing to do with office, now I have never inquired what the $ to expand the storage their cloud storage, but they are willing to take my C.C. anytime to buy more storage unrelated to OFFICE and I assume I would not be required to buy any OFFICE products ?

It costs more to buy cloud storage than the amount you get free using Office 365. So why not take benefit of office 365 AND get updated version of Windows. Office 2003 is 18 years old and if you ever need it for business use you may have difficulties in compatibility.

I am reconsidering using the cloud for off site storage of my Veritas image incremental and full backups. After finally running down some performance specs on the various services I realize that they are all much too slow for that task. For example, if considering iDrive, which is one of the fastest, the time to copy the various full backup files would be 1.25 hrs, 5 hrs, 7 hrs, 2 hrs and 4.25 hours. So, one of the backups which takes about 90 mins to complete locally would take 7 hours to copy the file to the cloud. This restraint would cause the local backups not to complete until some time the next day. Some incrementals would take as long as 45 mins for the copy or longer depending on the changes made that day. And if I wanted to initially put all my backup files (both full and incremental) it would take more than 41 hours. Probably would want to use some type of express option of sending a disk to the service.

I could possibly use the cloud to store the system drive backups only. Right now my off site copies are to a usb attached sata drive which is at risk staying attached to the system. Probably easier to add another off site disk which I remove nightly. Still at risk if I take a bad lightning strike, my house burns down or is blown up by some politically crazed nut which we seem to have a lot of here in the states lately.

By the way, I have no problem getting Office 365 free with purchasing storage, but that is just renting the software. If later you give up the storage you give up Office. I'm not a big fan of renting software which many vendors have moved to like MS and Adobe. I'm an old school fan of stand alone owned software paying for updates, but the software is mine. I personally have Office 2010 which has all the features I currently need. I could easily upgrade to 2013 or 2016 which I believe was the last stand alone version before 365.

It would be cheaper in the long run to buy a NAS drive.
