Problem with Macrium Reflect Back up times.

    Hi everyone
having a problem with macrium backup.
I have it set to do a image full backup every day (and have done this for years) Usual time for this was approx 16 minutes. Never had a problem, and have lost count of the times it has got me back on the road in times of trouble.
Now, suddenly it is taking 4-5 hours to get near the end of this task.
The only changes made recently was the installation of Norton 360 deluxe. I have excepted the reflect bits in the Norton settings in case this was the cause of the problem - no success.
    Your thoughts appreciated

Are you backing up to internal or external source?
How much data on the C: drive?

    Hello Ghot
    thanks for your response.
My C:\ drive shows 728Gb free of 930GB - therefore image equates to approx 200Gb

this is being backed up to an internal drive which is 941Gb free of 1.81 TB
Be mindful of the fact that for ages it has only taken appro x 15 - 18 minutes max to backup.
    Hope this is of help

    @Skofab

Well, you can get Crystal Disk Mark and test both drives (source and destination), to test the drive's speed.
    Download – Crystal Dew World

The zip file is the portable version.

You could also uninstall/reinstall Macrium Reflect, to see if IT is the problem.
Then open a command prompt as Admin and type: sfc /scannow
...space between sfc and /scannow. This will determine if Windows is being weird.

If none of that, clears things up, then it may BE Norton 360. Triple check all it's settings and exceptions. Maybe you missed an exception.
Macrium only has one service and one process.

You may already have looked here....

But if you look at the very end of each log under the Reflect tab labeled [ Log ] you'll see the IO performance which might help diagnose the bottle neck.

Also under the the very top menu bar, not the tabs, in the 'Backup' drop down is 'Disk Write Perfomance...' which lets you test real time without doing an actual backup.

I have to say 200 G in ~15 minutes sounds pretty fast. Are these internal SSD's?

16 minutes is remarkably fast for imaging 200GB. Your specs say your cpu is a 2nd gen. i3, but even my fastest machine with a 6th gen. i7 and an SSD for its C: drive takes nearly an hour to make a Full image of slightly less than 200GB from the source drive, according to its logs.

    Imaging Summary
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ...
    Total Selected: 181.97 GB
    ...
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Destination:
    Backup Type: Full
    ...
    I/O Performance: Read 1.7 Gb/s - Write 1.2 Gb/s
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Image and Verification Completed Successfully in 00:50:05
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your 16 minutes to completion is more typical of a Differential or Incremental image. Are you sure you were previously doing a Full image? You can check that in Macrium's logs for your previous images. Here's that same machine of mine performing an Incremental.

    Imaging Summary
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ...
    Total Selected: 210.13 GB
    ...
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Destination:
    Backup Type: Incremental
    ...
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    I/O Performance: Read 1.5 Gb/s - Write 1.5 Gb/s

    Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
I just recorded what was indicated, and did not realise the significance.
Its just dawned on me that my usual space used on C:\ was normally an indicated 85GB

The big mystery is where and what is all this addition data come from? Will investigate, but ideas welcomed

Anti-virus/Maintenance apps have been known to run away and chew up space, so I'd try to home in on Norton.
