TreeSize Free when run as and administrator can show everything that is on your drive. It's a good way to see what is using up your space. I use the portable app version.

    Thanks Bree
TreeSize proved to be very revealing, and highlighted 2 problem areas.
There was one folder indicated to be 59Gb !!!!!!!!!!
This same folder was on other PC's with a reported size of 5Gb - correcting this made a big reduction.

Second point, TreeSize revealed the user size as a horrendous 74Gb (C:\ windows\user) whereas all other computers show this particular folder to be 10Gb or less.
I am not sure how to tackle this individual issue at the moment - solutions welcome of course.
    Again my thanks to all

Please note that performing a backup solely to an internal disk renders you liable to loss of your backup in the event of a power problem, virus, ransomware and even theft.

Backing up to an external medium stored elsewhere is a great idea.

Further, using e.g. differential imaging means you can have a number of dates to which you could potentially restore your system.

When creating the image, the transfer rate is shown. Has this reduced significantly?
