endless booting and now can't restore macrium

    Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help. Problems started a few days ago with occasional 'page fault in non paged area - iastorav.sys'. It got worse before I could look at it. It moved to forever looping on boot to ' performing automatic repair' and never boots to windows 10 (1909). Here are some things I have tried:

    1) using Kyhi rescue usb disk (1709) - it boots but gets BSOD .
    2) using Windows 1909 iso - it also boots but get BSOD
    3) using Macrium RE 1903 - it boots into Macrium Reflect and I plug in my external drive and it finds the backed up image but says I have no destination drive ie my c:. Running cmd prompt from this environment, I run 'diskpart' and 'list disk' and it also does not show my c:

In all 3 above , i had to go to legacy boot instead of uefi to get this to boot.

    thanks

That stop code 99 percent means you lost RAM stability. You will need to test the RAM.

thanks I forgot to mention I used the built in Dell diagnostics and have tested for memory and more for hours on end.

Boot again, from the Macrium bootable media, and click on "fix boot problems", or w/e it's called exactly.

Hi, looking at this from another point of view- it sounds like you've some sort of problem with your internal disk (assuming it's not some other hardware fault - that you could at least run RAM diagnostics is something of a good sign.

However you've not been able to boot from Kyhi's boot disk or a Win 10 install disk.
Assuming those are functional (have you used them successfully at any time? You say
    2) using Windows 1909 iso - it also boots but get BSOD
    - you can't boot a PC from an iso file.. do you mean a Win 10 bootable disk? And if so how did you create it?
) then I suggest trying this:

Remove your internal disk, then see if you can boot from Kyhi's disk or a valid Win 10 install disk created using the MS media creation tool. (Whilst that should be independent of your internal disk, if its presence is somehow affecting things (i.e. something seriously amiss with it) that eliminates it from the scenario).

I did try this, when you try to fix it, macrium asks for location of the OS. Since it cannot find that drive (see diskpart), I can't add location to fix.

    .
I did try both Kyhi and yes Windows install disk ( I think via Media Creation Tool but that was quite a while ago) in the past and I just retried it again on another laptop and both work fine. I can try the disk removal next but that might be tonight or tomorrow. Any ideas why Macrium does not see the drive? Windows does see it, as it perpetually attempts to repair drive ( no usb connected) so why not Macrium?

Can you reliably boot BIOS Legacy and use Windows?

What were you able to do when booting BIOS Legacy that was not able to be done when booting BIOS UEFI?

Bear in mind your disk may have failed. Again, as an experiment, try booting from e.g. Kyhi's disk without the disk inserted.

Try to determine the status of the disk:

If having it inserted prevents booting with other than Macrium's boot disk, try putting it in caddy and connecting it as USB disk on a working PC or this one booted from Kyhi's disk to see if you can determine anything about its status.
