    File history folder

Windows 10 v 2004 64 Bit:I have a notification saying that my file history folder has been disconnected
for too long re- connect it now. When I type file history folder into the search box,it just says Toshiba F.
Where do I find this to re-connect and is it important?

The 'Toshiba F:' it refers to would most likely be an external USB HDD that you had plugged in when you first set up File History. If you don't have it plugged in at present then File History cannot work. If you do have it plugged in, then check the drive letter is has assigned to it. If it is no longer F: then File History cannot find or use it.

You can change the drive letter assigned to an external USB drive by opening Disk Management, then right-click on the partition of the drive concerned.

As for what File History does while the history drive is unavailable...
If the drive selected as the backup location becomes unavailable, such as when a USB cable is disconnected or the network goes down for maintenance, File History will continue to do its job by saving the copies to a cache on the local drive. Once the backup location becomes available again, the cached contents are transferred to that location and removed from the local drive.

The edb file is a database of the backups used internally by File History, nothing user-readable there. The xml is in eXtensible Markup Language format. It is a text file that can be opened in Notepad, but is more readable if opened in a browser such as IE. It contains the specifications of which folders are being backed up. Do not change anything under the Configuration folder on your History drive, all its contents are visible and can can only safely be modified in File History's settings.

Your actual File History backups are under the Data folder, The $OF folder appears to be for File History's internal use, while the C folder contains the backup copies of your files with the same directory structure as they were on the PC being backed up. You can manually copy these back to your PC if you wish, they are unmodified copies of the original files. The only change File history has made it to append the date and time of the backup to their file name.

Deleted File History Config folders accidentally

    Hi
Maybe you could help me out? I had an issue with my PC and deleted the config folder inside File History folder in the Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows.
Now my File History "Turn On" button is greyed out and it doesn't acknowledge my external drive even with it being shared and it was there before I turned it "off".
Can you help me get the contents of the config back?
    Thanks
