Macrium Reflect Backkup question about checked boxes

When I select "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows", I notice that all partitions are not automatically checked? Or does the main check mark, on the far left, over ride individual check marks? See example.

When I untick the left box all the partition boxes remove the tick and vice versa. Try a repair install via programs and features, select 'change', if not working correctly.

Hi, I've seen that happen. Simply check the partitions you wish to image.

If you create a backup job when you create a base image, you just keep using the backup job.. and no worries about what's checked as it's then not an issue...until the next feature update (e.g.) when you create a new base image and backup job.

@meebers this is a case where, if I wanted to make sure all of my partitions (the entire disk) got imaged, I never would have clicked "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows". It looks to me like you got exactly what you requested when you clicked that. Only the 100 MB partition (for booting) and the system partition, C drive, with the Windows installation. None of the other partitions, including the recovery partition, are required to restore Windows to a bootable state, per Macrium's definition.

In short, no that check mark on the left didn't override, and it looks to me like Macrium did exactly what you asked it to.

The check mark on the left is for selecting a whole drive. It is grey to show that some but not all partitions on this drive are selected. Click it and all will be deselected, click it again and it will select all.

Macrium determines which partition are 'required for Windows' from your system's configuration. If you think it has missed something out you are free to tick it yourself an add it to the backup.

Your partition 1 (Recovery) may or may not be 'required'. Your partition 5 also looks like it may have been a recovery partition at one time. Whether a recovery partition may be 'required' depends on whether your recovery environment is enabled, and if so which partition it's held on. It is possible that it's enabled but located on the C: partition. To find out how yours is configured use the command reagentc /info in a Command Prompt (Admin).

The '2 -NO NAME' Fat32 partition is essential, its the EFI partition, a necessary part of booting up a UEFI system. The 16MB partition 3 is the Microsoft Reserved Partition (MSR), while not 'required for Windows' Macrium does include mine. This is what I get for 'the partitions required to backup and restore Windows'.

Yes! I agree with you, MR did what I chose. I continued with the selection and viewed the image afterwards. Also about the left hand check box, cycling it turned all partitions on or back to what MR chose. Could use mini partition tool to merge/fix it. Tx for assistance.

Although Bree's answer was a bit more complete, you're more than welcome. If you care about the Windows Recovery Environment being kept intact, you may want to check on it as Bree suggests.

Tx Bre W10 likes to create extra partitions, #5 may have been when MS wanted it placed to the right of the main drive partition, leaving the other there just for the heck of it. If you noticed, I also have a partition #6. Some times I switch different SSD's out, one of which is 240GB and the other is 250 GB. Imaging from the smaller one to the bigger one leaves a ~10GB partition.(#6) Going the other way, MR tells me not enough room, so I have to uncheck it. If I remember correctly, previous version's used to "TRIM" it and take away or add to the C: partition. Can't do it now because of Partition 5 placement.??? Tx
