    My Passport

I've been using My Passport backup devices and they always stop working.

Anyone else find these to be junk and is there another automatic, reliable option available?

I haven't had any problems, have been using a 1TB USB 3 version for about 3 years now.

They've all been a few years and then they stop for me.
    You're having good luck.

Anyone else using a decent automatic backup?

Both My Passport at home and the office have stalled on August 14, 2020 as the last backup date.
Anyone know if there was a Win10 update at this time?

Perhaps use a PowerShell query or - easier still - the date search in Nir Sofer's small, free, portable FullEventLogView to show all logged changes on that date (and x days before?) to see if any related changes show up?

I've just done the same on one of my own systems and August 14, 2020 was a busy day... hundreds of changes made. The trick is to use filters (in Advanced Options) to search for the possibly most relevant.

    1. Download the version that's the correct 'bitness' for your system.
    2. Unzip and use the right-click Run as administrator option to run it with elevated privileges.
    3. Use Advanced Options (from Options in the menubar) to Show only events in the specified time range:

I would suggest removing the ticks from all but the first 3 Event Levels checkboxes first then add the other events as needed.

    Hope this helps...

Loathe and detest any/all of the so-called backup software that comes with any brand of external storage.

First task I do with any new device - delete partition (rather than just delete visible programs) > re-partition, which also removes any hidden autorun software.

Then use a third-party backup program (like SyncBackFree) ... run manually, set up scheduled task(s), whatever.

I'll have to study up on what you just said.

Did you use any utility to clear event logs a week ago?

Does FullEventLogView show other log entries if you change the Show only...dropdown to Show only events from the last.. then change the default time period from 7 days to 14 days (i.e. to include 13th August in the date range)?

Thanks. Set it for 14 days and only shows to the 19th of August.
I checked my passport at work and found a date on it in magic marker. I've used it since June of 2013. I think it's time for a couple of new ones.

Anyone know a good automatic one or a manual one that can be set to automatic? I'm too lazy to run backups.

I used Win10 built in Backup and all files now appear on My Passport both here at home and at work.
Will keep an eye on it.
    Thanks for all that responded.
