As far as I know, most any backup program can be "automated" by using Windows built-in Task Scheduler.

I use SyncBackFree, but I've used others like FreeFileSync and Second Copy.

BUT----I run them manually and have never tried Task Scheduler or any automated method.

Problem with automation is that you get lulled into complacency, thinking it's all being taken care of and you don't have to worry about a thing.

Then the stuff hits the fan and you find out the automation didn't actually work as well as you had assumed--for whatever reason.

That's OK for a Windows installation--no problem, you just spend a few hours installing because your backup failed.

NOT OK for personal data when you find out you don't really have a backup of that important file.

I am even luckier than him. My My Passport has been working fine for more than a decade.

I think I will try that.
Can I turn off the automatic backup that's built into My Passort?

I reformatted my My Passport long ago. I have never used and know nothing about the built-in backup software.
