    Data recovery

    Hi,

I have my old HDD and and I need help in backing up data from that drive, issue that I'm facing

    1. Drive is getting listed when do "list volume" in diskpart, how ever the size is 0
    2. I tried chkdsk /f f: gave error "cannot open volume for direct access
    3. I tried chkntfs /X F: gave error "cannot query sate of drive F:

The only thing I know is the drive size shows as "0", RAW file mostly and i'm unable to get the data backed up, can someone please guide me if there is a way to fix this issue and get the data back from that HDD.

    Current OS WIN 10

You could try downloading and booting from a Linux Live CD => Download Linux Mint 20.

    I hope this helps!

It may be the disk is damaged and nothing is recoverable. However, if you don't have a backup of the data, here's a free file recovery program that can attempt to scan RAW partitions/drives:

Puran File Recovery - Recovery deleted files for free

Most of the common ones only give limited options for use without buying a license. E.g. scan only, limited data recovery...
    Example:

This comprehensive free Win 10 live boot disk (download iso, create bootable disk from it) includes several data recovery programs including Minitool Partition Wizard Pro - see link above:

I ran into a similar problem trying to recovery data from a 3TB Seagate drive that suddenly decided to reformat itself.

I tried all the current "popular" apps:
    1) Active@Partition Recovery -- ran for 14 hours, found NOTHING useful
    2) Active@File Recovery (my previous data recovery app of choice) -- also ran for 14 hours, found NOTHING useful
    3) Hetman Partition Recovery -- same story, lots of waiting, no useful results
    4) EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard -- same story, lots of waiting, no useful results

So, in desperation, I loaded up an OLD app (GetDataBack) and ran it -- and within a few minutes (not HOURS) I had a screen with a filesystem displayed. I recovered one of the folders and a test -- and it worked! Yeah, it's an XP-era app with a really awful display (can't even do drag-and-drop), but it worked!!

So, I got their latest version (GetDataBack Pro v5.55), ran that, and again, in few minutes, had a display of the filesystem and within a few HOURS, was able to recover nearly all of the 800GB of thousands of files, and random sampling showed all the recovered files to be intact.

OK, so it's 80$ -- but unlike all those other apps, it actually WORKS!!
