    Is windows backup worth anything?

If im already using aomei backupper to back up windows, and if i already got my most important files backed up on usb memory sticks, would windows own backup tool be worth anything?

Do you mean Backup and Restore (Windows 7) or File History or something else?

The first is deprecated - effectively near enough obsolete. The second seems problematic at times.

In addition to scheduled or periodic backups (and of course, regular and routine disk imaging), consider synching tools (Google or search tenforums) for backing up fast changing critcal files.

No Windows backup is pretty much worthless. Stay with your Aomei backupper if you like it.

A lot of us use Macrium Reflect for a backup program. Incase you want another option.

Yes, im talking about windows own backup tool, backup and restore. It seems like it simply copies your files and folders?

Thank you for your reply. Be specific. To understand what you're referring to, how do you launch whatever it is you're referring to? Screenshot.

Backup & Restore (Windows 7) has two separate functions: to back up files and folders, and to create a system image. It's specifically the system image function that has been deprecated.

Backup & Restore's files and folders backup is not a simple copy, it actually creates a backup set consisting of a linked series of 200MB .zip files. Here's one I created earlier....

It is near-impossible to manually find and extract a particular file from a backup set. The only practical way to restore file(s) from a backup set is is to run Backup & Restore again. I no longer use Backup & Restore.

File History on the other hand does just copy the files to its History folder, the only change it makes to a file is to append the time and date of the backup to the file's name. Here's my File History folder in active use.

The main way to restore a file backup is to open File History, but failing that it's easy to manually find, copy and rename a backed up file. My primary means of backup is Macrium Reflect, but I like to have File History turned on as a second line of defence.
