I've tried all the options listed in that link. None of them apply to my error code symptoms. The only thing I have not done because I don't know how is to uninstall ShadowProtect which I am unable to find.

The specified folders required for this fix

C:\Program Files\StorageCraft\SPX

64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\StorageCraft\ShadowProtect

do not exist on my PC

Same here. Imaging is very reliable and my preferred method for moving to a new system drive.

It seems your other application is screwing up the shadow copy process. You could use the free version of Revo Uninstaller to check for remnants after uninstallation, although I've bought the Pro version for my PCs since it is so useful. I hate backup programs like this which are hard to remove - Acronis is another offender.

If there is a problem related to VSS, imaging from Windows won´t help, since VSS is also used for creating online images. To "bypass" VSS, work from a Macrium boot UFD.

What exactly is a "Macrium boot UFD" and how do I use it to "bypass" VSS?

How do I know which "other application"to remove with Revo Uninstaller?

I think that was meant to say 'USB'. If you create the bootable Macrium Recue Media on a USB it's not just used for restoring an image. It's a fully functional copy of Macrium, if you boot from it you can also use it to create a Macrium image.
