How to setup a back up of work folders onto an external HDD

Hi, I am looking at how to setup a backup that automatically saves a copy of certain folders from our work server and saves it on an external drive, to make things less cumbersome, it should only update changed or added files, is this possible, every time I ask the question I get told how to back up my PC,which IS NOT WHAT I WANT.

Hi, there are various file/folder synchronising programs around that may help.

As it's for work, your IT staff may have a view as to how/whether this should be done, including any need for encryption, for example.

...and if ransomware somehow hits, along with internal drives, any attached external drives will also be hit. Is this external drive disconnected except when the backup software is invoked?
