Macrium Rescue USB Won't Boot

    Macrium Rescue USB Won't Boot


    Today I received a new Alienware r11 PC, UEFI Firmware. I created a Macrium Rescue USB but when I tried to boot from it the option wasn't available. I've disable Secure Boot but other then that I've done nothing to the firmware since this is my first UEFI PC. These are the options that I see on the boot menu:

    The contents of the Rescue USB looks like this:

    If there something else that I need to change in the firmware to get the Rescue USB to boot?

    If it's like my Alienware, select the BIOS setup option, then UEFI with Secure Boot off. Been a while since I've done this.

    Option one: Boot mode should be set to either UEFI & Legacy or Legacy only.
    Option two: Create ISO file in Reflect, then use Rufus, select Fat32/UEFI target, transfer files from ISO to USB.

    Did not work. I still cannot see the USB drive in the boot options menu. I've been doing this in the BIOS firmware world for years but I have no idea what the hell is going on here. I'm baffled.

    Update: I had 2 failed USB thumb drives. As soon as I used the 3rd drive Macrium created the Rescue USB and I was able to see it in the boot menu. What are the odds of having two bad USB sticks in a row?

    Worth mentioning for other's coming here to this topic, I once had a Macrium Rescue disk not show up in the boot order because I had another non-bootable USB in a hub that I'd forgotten about, and once removed, my Rescue disk again showed up like it always had before.

    Also the embedded MicroSD card readers in both my platforms have never showed up in the boot order.

    Ensure you use Intel USB ports if there is a choice

    Have drives actually failed.

    Sometimes the mbr get corrupted and use of diskpart clean command sorts it.

    I think that’s what happened to at least one of them because it could not be formatted. I got a message saying that the MBR didn’t exist. I’ll give the clean command a try.

    If diskpart clean command fails, drive is isually fubared. Also use diskpart convert mbr command.
