The time to make the image depends of the speed of the source drive, the speed of the cpu (Macrium compresses the image) and the speed of the destination drive.
The time to verify is mainly limited by the speed you can read from the HDD holding the image as the demands on the cpu are lower for verifying. My experience is that for an external HDD on a USB2 port the time to verify is about the same as (or a bit less than) the time it took to make the image.
I finally canceled the Verification. It was at 80% and 3hrs. I tried verifying another image that I took a few weeks ago and it quickly went up to 39% then froze for about 5 minutes then shot up to 45% and froze again. It is continuing this way. Just wondering, could my Passport drive be going out? I also changed USB ports and same thing.
You could test to get a better idea.
For instance:
If you have a small partition of some type on your primary drive, you could make an image of that partition alone, and save it on C to find out if the verification process is similarly slow when the image is on an internal.
And of course you could run independent tests of the external----but it doesn't appear to be haywire because the image-making procedure took an expected amount of time.
Did you happen to check Task Manager to see if anything was hogging CPU cycles during verification?
That's one possible explanation. Try reading it's S.M.A.R.T. data with something like:
CrystalDiskInfo Portable (disk health monitoring) | PortableApps.com
If either of the 'Reallocated Sector' or 'Pending Sector' counts are above zero then that's an indicator for a failing drive.

Another question, I got a new Seagate external drive today and I believe this is going to fix my problem with my long verify times. Anyway, when I start up Maxium Reflex it shows two partitions on the Seagate. One that I assume has all the software that comes with the disk (Which I don't want) and the other says "Unformatted". Is there something that I need to do before I start making images to it. I am not much familiar with formatting. Thanks for all your help (again).
Delete that partition with the Seagate bloatware and format the entire drive standard NTFS. Then you can make a folder for your images. I say make a folder because it keeps them organized and away from anything else you may want to put on the new drive.
That can be done with Disk Management. right-click the Seagate bloatware partition and Delete. Should end up with one big unallocated. Right click and format, taking the defaults.
