    Hi there
Macrium stand alone boot -->fix windows boot problems has in my experience been able to fix anything thrown at it -- I even restored an image of a Windows VM which was running on a Linux host and created via KVM with all sorts of "Virtio" drivers -- restored this image to an internal hard disk on a laptop, ran the windows fix boot problems from the macrium bootable recovery media and it booted fine -- and actually apart from the video driver Windows did all the relevant updates so I only had to update the video driver (basic VGA on a 55 inch screen looks pretty hideous BTW !!!!).

Just boot any live Linux distro and download a suitable Windows install iso -- to create a bootable USB from the ISO when you don't have a windows system available -- use the following linux command from your live distro : (as root or sudo)

dd if=<windows iso image> of=/dev/sdx (where /dev/sdx is the device nr of the usb - find via command lsblk) bs=64M status=progress

    No formatting etc required.

Then you can from the windows media either fresh install or try and repair.
For latest builds you can download via UUPDUMP -- there's a linux script too if you don't have a Windows machine available.

    Cheers

    Regarding OMBs disk.

There is a save start program menu utility, but I cannot see any way
of using it on the non booting Win 10 installation ?

Well, one thing I am seeing is the C: drive is marked as active, but you have what appears to be a 100 mb System Reserved partition. The first simple thing I would try is:

    Code:
    bcdboot C:\Windows /s C: /f BIOS

I tried BCD boot, created boot files successfully. Same for several
    Macrium runs.

Same result, windows starts boot, puts up 4 pane window on desktop,
rotating bee bees icon underneath, then window disappears, hard disk
access comes on, stays on for ~ 2 minutes, then essentially stops, very
in-frequent access, and hangs there forever.

So you are actually booting into Windows and it is your Windows install that is broken, not the boot process.

No I never get to desktop screen. Screen starts with 4 little panes, turquoise,
then the screen is blank except for rotating bee bees at bottom of screen. So
    it starts boot, never finishes.

Another piece of SW I was using for trouble shooting told me all drivers
were being loaded OK, no problems.

I have tried safe boot, not sure if I ever actually got it into that mode,
    still hangs halfway thru boot.

I would download the Windows 10 ISO for the version you are using and make installation media.

Boot from the installation media, and then select the Repair option at the bottom of the screen.

In Repair, select Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, and select Startup Repair.

If it finds and fixes issues, you can find out what those are after booting successfully and going to C:\Windows\System32\Logfiles and opening the text file SrtTrail.txt

I have done quite a few repair cycles off Boot Disk I prepared
with media creation tool. Both USB and CDROM.

No luck so far. But will look at boot log.

You won't get the text file results until Startup Repair runs.
