If you need DATA backup / archive / changed / updated files - then imaging an entire disk is a "Bonkers way to do it".
Even copying data via File explorer to say an externally attached HDD / SSD is OK but a bit of a laborious manual process..
If you don't want PAID versions of software which can do this reasonably efficiently then :
If you really want only to copy / update new / changed files then as people suggest ROBOCOPY might be OK -- I prefer rsync (or the GUI version) on a NAS -- just run the command from the NAS to select the path/ directory you want to copy the files from and select from the options -- job done.
