Restore a backup from one laptop to another laptop

Hello, I just broke my laptop (Asus S510UN, it's an i7, 16GB, NVME…) it slipped from my hands and fell. I am looking to buy another of the same configuration may not be the same brand.

Too bad, because it was recent (2018), worked very well and I took a while to install all my apps, Office, AV, tools ...) and especially to customize all the tweaks of Win10 x64 Pro. Fortunately, I kept a very recent backup of disks.

Would it be possible to restore this backup on a new laptop? knowing that this new laptop will not be the same (model, brand, drivers…). At least I won't have lost everything.

    I'll appreciate yr advices
    Regards

What did you make the backup with? Windows built-in imaging (I hope not). Macrium Reflect?

You should be able to remove the drive and pop that into a caddy (such as an external USB drive you may already own) and so at least you can recover your personal files and so.

Some backup programs do allow you to restore an image to 'dissimilar hardware' although the results can be variable. As long as you have your own personal files safe then I would just reconfigure the new laptop from scratch or even wipe it and clean install W10 without all the bloat.

    TNX for yr advices
    Indeed
    1. All my personal data have already been collected and secured.
    2. I have the C: disc: (NVME) intact.
    3. I had made an image of this disk with Acronis True Image 2019.

Out of curiosity, what backup programs do allow to restore an image to "dissimilar hardware"?

I remain open to all your advice
    Regards

I use AOMEI which offer that facility. I would think Macrium probably does as well.

    BTW,
Is it possible to restore system not only to dissimilar hardware but also to dissimilar BIOS/UEFI?
    in example: BIOS-PC to UEFI-laptop?

Likely will not boot after the restore, because the drivers and registry entries apply to the damaged system.

I have seen it said that you can clean install Windows, then restore just the old C: partition from the backup.
