Late to the party, but I've used Casper (currently on version 10.1, I think) from Future Systems Solutions for many years and found it reliable for both imaging and cloning. Doesn't seem to have a huge market share but appears to have a lot of loyal customers. Not free, but responsive technical support. I'd be interested to know why it doesn't have a larger presence in the market - I don't think I've ever read any negative reports and, as far as I know, FSS is an American company.

I think the first explains the second. Macrium's free version is a clever marketing ploy. Many (including me) like it so much we end up buying it

Much the same situation with me ... I used Macrium Reflect free for some time, was so impressed by it, that I ended up buying multiple licenses.

But as others have said, the free version suffices for most folks.

I'm sure that's true - when I started using backup and cloning software, the Internet, the Internet was hardly out of short trousers and Ghost was about the only alternative that I was aware of then. No free stuff unless it was really old versions.

I must admit that I am surprised that people who use other alternatives, other than MR have not posted what they use!

My first time was using the built-in Windows imaging, worked well enough and made a copy of my Win7 HDD before taking the free upgrade to W10 in 2015. Next I tried Macrium and... well... there didn't seem much point in testing anything else.

If you want to see other software discussed, every couple of years or so someone runs a Poll. Many others options were discussed in the ensuing threads. Here are a couple....

2016: Tell your backup software, win Macrium Reflect Home license!

This is NOT actually my thread, I was just trying to generate some responses for the OP's question!

I see a lot of users getting confused when using Macrium Reflect. I've still got Macrium but prefer this free alternative:

MiniTool ShadowMaker Backup - Back up System and Hard Drive

Offers Full, Incremental and Scheduled backups. Mount and explore backups.
