    Another Easeus Todo User Issue........

    Hi,

First time on this forum, and apologies in advance for the length of the post.

I am in the process of upgrading a Windows 10 Lenovo Ideapad 320 1TB HDD with a Seagate Barracuda 1TB SSD, and using Easeus todo to clone the SSD.

Initial results were encouraging, with the partitions being identical in size, so there I was thinking this will be easy.....famous last words!!!

I'm now on day 4 of trying to get the laptop to recognise the SSD in the Boot Up menu, but without success. With the SSD installed, I receive the "Set-up Initialisation" error message, but using Alt and Tab allows me to press enter, but then the black screen of doom.

When I go into the BIOS with the SSD installed, it does not show up at all so unable to direct it to use the SSD first. When I reinstall the HDD and then connect the SSD via a USB/SATA3 cable, it DOES show the SSD.

So I thought I would try setting the SSD on the USB as the first boot up option, but this just brought up a repair message and didn't do anything for several hours.

So a case of pause and deep breaths rather than keep getting frustrated. However, I did notice on rechecking the SSD that it does not appear to have cloned the Boot. In my own mind, I was thinking that I would try recloning from the HDD to the SSD again, but I am now getting a partition error message as per the attached image.

Now I suspect it may be a case of resetting the SSD to it's original state, and starting the cloning process from scratch. However, I'm not sure if there is something I have missed to ensure that the Boot is also cloned (I did select all partitions of the HDD to clone).

Just wondering (hoping!!) that someone may be able to advise on the best way to proceed with this.

    Many thanks.

    You say "clone".

Have you deliberately rejected imaging instead?

I use EaseUS Partition Master 14 to do that and not Todo. I never had a Problem.

Not deliberately - I was following an article on-line that looked at cloning and recommended Easyus todo. Nothing mentioned about imaging.....and TBH, I'm not sure what it entails!!!

I did notice that Partition Master can be used, but when I tried it, it was then looking to charge whereas I was hoping that the free version would suffice.

Imaging is a two step process:

1: Make the image of some or all of the partitions on a drive. That image file is saved to another drive, maybe external.

2: Restore that image file to a hard drive. Restoration is a formal process, not simple "copying".

Cloning is a one step process, direct, drive to drive, in real time. Imaging is not done in real time. You might make an image on Monday and restore it an hour or a year later.

Imaging seems to have fewer issues. I can't be sure it would help in your case, but it might be worth a try.

Yes I used the paid version, have owned it for years. Some use a program called Mini Tool or some such name for this.

MiniTool Partition Wizard is a great program. The free version is better than some other paid versions.

Thanks for your replies. Funnily enough, last night I reset the SSD to factory defaults and recloned, so it is now showing the identical partition sizes. It is just the boot that is the problem, but I have seen a number of articles/posts on the web highlighting this issue - it looks as if I may need to try using bootrec to fix the issue - hopefully this will work, as it does seem to be a fairly common problem. Keeping fingers (and everything else) crossed.

From your screenshot in the first post, you have a UEFI system. If you don't solve your issue using bootrec, this is what I would suggest. This is assuming the HDD is installed in the computer, and the SSD is connected via the USB3 cable:

    1. Install Macrium Refelct Free:
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

    2. Use the option in Macrium Reflect Free to create a Macrium Rescue USB flash drive.

    3. Erase the SSD and convert it to GPT, in a Command Prompt (Admin) run:
    Code:
    diskpart
    list disk
select disk # <-replace # with the actual number for the SSD
clean <-this will erase the disk selected above, make sure it is the SSD!
    convert GPT
    exit
    exit
    4. Clone all of the partitions from the HDD to the SSD using Macrium Reflect Free.
    5. Physically install the SSD as the system boot drive.
    6. If the SSD won't boot, then boot from the Macrium rescue USB flash drive, and under the restore menu will be a utility to fix Windows boot problems. Run that utility.

A week later, and having finally exhausted all options from the easeUS cloning exercise, I gave up and downloaded Macrium Free. Only one minor issue that was resolved by reformatting the SSD, and a few hours later it is up and running on the SSD. I have learned........!!!

Many thanks to everyone who posted with advice - extremely grateful to you all.

Talk about misplaced optimism. One day of working fine, then tonight when I had already logged in and just needed to wake the machine up, I now get error messages galore about my login account not being valid. I can’t now login, when I restart it goes into start up repair mode but keeps telling me it is unable to repair (have tried 6 times without success), I tried to restore windows whilst keeping my files, all to no avail.

Would I be right in assuming that I will need to swap out the SSD for the old HDD and try a complete reclone again?

Ever get the feeling this Lenovo is trying to tell me something??!!!!
