What you do is setup the backup and save it as a backup definition file. Then run the Macrium backup definition file several times, the first time produced a Full backup with an -00-00.mrbak at the end. Subsequent runs (differential or incremental) will be -01-01.mrbak, -02-02.mrbak and so on, in sequence. What you do to find a particular version of a file is to open the particular .mrback made at the time of the version you want to find.
Ah, thank you. I now see the earlier versions when I open earlier .mrbak files. To find the version I'm looking for, I would have to mount each one of the .mrbak files. Exploring past versions in File History 'Restore' is much easier. Too bad File History itself doesn't work.

File History has worked well for me for many years.

As it has for me. But the OPs problem is that whils it seemes to work for the most part, one particular important folder is being missed out.

The last file written by File History to the NAS in that folder is dated 5/21/2020, nearly two weeks ago. Meanwhile, files in other folders nearby are being backed up. So it's not like File History isn't working. It's just not noticing changes in a particular directory (there may be others, but this is the one I checked).
File History is not backing up my work

At least one folder. There may be others. But it is the important folder on my hard drive! I have a year's worth of work in that folder. Fortunately, I run several other kinds of backup, but none of those backups occur in near real-time. Macrium File and Folder backup looks promising.

Sorry for my poor English comprehension. What do you mean by a "canned" solution?

I apologize for using an idiom. I mean a commercially-available solution.

A script can be customized and modified to work like a canned solution.

Just a suggestion but have a look at Best Free File History Alternative for Windows 8/8.1/10
Free version has incremental backups only.

Thank you. It looks interesting. But I decided to go with Macrium Reflect "File and Folder backup" since I already use the paid version and it does almost exactly what I need with the "Incrementals Forever" schedule template. The backups will be small and will execute quickly.
