I cannot boot from my Macrium Reflect Rescue Disk I made

I downloaded the free version of Macrium Reflect. I used to use this backup program many years ago with good, solid results. But the past two times I've tried it I can't boot from the boot disk that I made.

All I see on the screen is black with maybe a blinking cursor.

During the setup of the boot disk I went into Advanced and saw there are several options you can choose from as far as recovery environment. I believe I chose the correct one.

But when I try to boot from the rescue disk all I end up staring at is a black screen.

I'm using Windows 8.1. Any tips?

    You could search in EightForums

There are some useful sources in TenForums so check them while you are here

    Macrium Software Macrium Reflect Free
    Macrium USB - TenForums
Macrium Reflect KnowledgeBase - user guide [version-independent link]

It can make bootable system images. This facility is called viBoot and it requires Win10 Pro [which you said you have]

I said I'm using Windows 8.1. I am booting from a CD. Not a USB dongle.

Perhaps try turning off secure boot in the BIOS? Can you boot from other bootable USB drives?

Note you can still get a free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to the latest version of Windows 10.

And it sucks that you can't go on their own forums and ask a question like mine. Their forums ignore free users.

I asked Macrium Technical Support questions when I had the free version of Reflect and they replied and answered my query. You do need to register an account.

Did you close the CD after creating it? (I use USB so I don’t know if Macrium does this automatically).
When you boot the PC are you clicking the correct key at the manufacturer’s logo to temporarily change boot order so you can choose the CD?
You can also add the recovery rescue media to the boot menu of the PC.

It's called marketing. They want frustrated people like you to buy a license.

The paid version also offers more features.

You get what you pay for. And you get a lot for free with Macrium.

My machine is set up to boot from my CD Drive if there is a bootable disc in there so I'm okay with that. I use Image Burn for burning and I would imagine it closes the disc.

I will try to post a question on the forum or email tech support.
