Windows Image Backup stopped working, VSS and SPP errors

Hi, I am new to Windows 10 Forum but was a member of Windows 8 Forum for many years. I have been an avid computer user since 1981 BBC Micro days. I have had a new Windows 10 since March 2019 but now have a problem that has frequently arisen with Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and now 10. I am hoping that someone has come up with an answer so that I can sort it out on this new PC. It is a HP All-in-One Desktop PC running Windows 10 Home.
Windows Image Backup. Now I know many of you will say use another program which I do, EaseUS ToDo Backup. This program works well in most instances and I have used it to restore sanity many times. During this lockdown I have been unable to sort out the microphone which does not work unless I shout at it. I have been working with HP for two days and after wiping the whole PC, testing and finding no diagnostic faults was left with a PC that would not boot. I have Repair disks from when I bought the PC and an Easeus recovery disk. The latter failed to work to boot up the PC. The windows repair disk did and I was able to restore an old windows image file, and then used Easeus backup to get back to the current time.
The image backup now constantly fails and despite searching the internet and trying various solutions nothing works. I have exported files of the technical failure events to VSS and SPP elements of the system if required. Now I am stuck and don't know where to turn. Any assistance in solving this issue would be appreciated.

    Please clarify.

    Is this correct:

You used Easeus backup "to get back to the current time"....meaning back to normal, at least temporarily?

"The image backup now constantly fails".............the Windows backup?? I'm not clear on why you would still be using it if you used Easeus successfully "to get back to the current time".

"Nothing works". To do what? What is your current status? You "got back to the current time" and then something else happened??

You could install Macrium Reflect on a temporary basis and under menu heading, along the top, is a fix VSS Problems.

Interesting that your Easeus boot media failed.

Windows Image Backup stopped working, VSS and SPP errors

To clarify, recovery software on the PC is obviously corrupted. I have now ordered a HP Recovery CD with all the original software, in case of another emergency.

Easeus emergency boot disk would not load
Windows 10 emergency boot disk did load so I had to use an old Windows Image file to get an old version of Windows 10 loaded.
Then I used the Easeus programme on the system to restore a system backup from 11th May and hence get back to almost the present time.
I always keep my old Windows image files from critical periods, like Windows 10 major updates, in case of emergencies like this. However I would like for the computer to do its monthly backup without failing.

I will look at Macrium to see if this will solve the problem.

I have loaded Macrium Reflect and tried the VSS fix option. Unfortunately this has not worked. I am considering removing EaseUS programme in case this is the cause, although I do like the ease of use. I have had issues in the past with the programme holding on to the EFI partition access and preventing Images being done. EaseUS have provided me with the .bat file to kill the EaseUS access but as of now even that is not working so it may not be their fault this time.
Looking on the internet, over the last 5 years or so many users have had issues with Image Backup failing without any clear resolution. I wonder if it is time to accept that Microsoft are just not interested as there are so many other backup tools now available. The fact that they still call it Windows 7 Image Backup makes me think they have forgotten about their millions of users.

I fiddled with Windows Backup in Win 7 and was not amused. Finicky, inflexible, a bit cryptic.

I think it was gone or at least deprecated in Win 8 and 8.1.

I'm not sure if Microsoft has formally said it's a low priority for them or if it will be removed in future updates, but I'd certainly be reluctant to place much confidence in it.

Ms declared it a deprecated feature about 3 years ago in Windows 10 but in reality it has not been supported since Windows 7 (hence confusing name in Windows 10). They recommend using 3rd party tools, and this forum's favourite by a long way is Macrium Reflect Free.

Don't use expensive Acronis - their support is terrible (ok you do not get direct support with Free version of Macrium Reflect but it is very well supported by Paramount - bugs get squashed very quickly).

    @Pentris -

You only need Macrium - Free Edition.
    Ditch the other programs.

Thank you all for your comments. When it worked well it always gave me a reliable restore. Time to move on and decide on staying with EaseUS, which has very good support from China, or change to Macrium Reflect.

    You can use both.

Should you go with Macrium I create bootable rescue media on two USB's. I alternate their use when new releases come out. I also test the rescue media each time I create it.

Macrium also has the ability to verify the backup after it is created. By default this is not enabled. I enable it, backup takes longer but I want to know it is usable.

Should you decide to buy Macrium contact their sales desk for a promo code or wait for a sale. Sales occur pretty regularly.

Looks like they are running a sale now.
