Verdict on OneDrive as Backup for all Windows 10 User Data files??

I have tried hard to like OneDrive but its issues on small insignificant tasks leave me wondering if it is business-class for backing up a Windows 10 office system user files??

Anyone here ever had a hard crash and needed to reconstruct using OneDrive AUTOMATICALLY-backed up data?
Is the backup process "silent" and trouble free for the user?
Again, is it simply reliable, both ways; that is it faithfully backs up all the originally-assigned data and the differential data on at least a daily basis, readily-accessible and accurate? [Competitive at least with Carbonite, as example]
Can it be done without the need to create special local folders or volumes that will confuse the user?
Can it work effectively with 3rd party software backup apps like Macrium Reflect? And if so, is it fast enough to get done without dragging the local system? [my observations yesterday might indicate a "NO, Not at any local speed/bandwidth" In other words, on a relatively fast ISP the backup uploads seem creepy slow, but I would prefer slow and Accurate to fast and risky]

thanks for opinions. not sure I yet trust onedrive enough to recommend to non-tech real people.

Unless you have a really fast internet, direct backup to OneDrive of Macrium Images would be painful.

A better solution would be to image backup to another drive, then sync the image to OneDrive overnight.

One drive and Google backup and sync are basicly the same you tell it what folders to use and it backs them up the second they are changed and you can get the data from anywhere in the world on any devce. Its not designed to backup images of an hd ondedrive has the bonus that it stores files in the cloud and only puts them on your pc when needed saving space. Google the photos are unlimited and FREE

Actually Macrium differentials are very small, and smaller the more frequently the backup.
What I am more concerned about is the reliability of OneDrive. Just today I was uploading a lot of files for someone else in another city to access, both using fairly fast ISPs. Though it appears on surface that all files are there in folders I uploaded, each time there were error messages from OneDrive near the end of the upload, with no guidance and a long delay before I get the "Done" signal.
It will take a long time to go through each folder and see if files made the trip and function ok

I'm just curious.... say your system won't boot and you don't have another computer....how do you access OneDrive?

So no answers to my question... is that really the way you want to do a back up?

And in keeping with your next question, my thought is OneDrive is about accessing data from any location and any computer in which case an actual backup would be of no use to correct a catastrophic drive failure. It would be much better to have an External USB drive or more for the purpose. Isn't that what sites like DropBox are also good for, file sharing?

Never considered OneDrive (or other equivalents) as a "backup" option. Ideal for uploading and sharing files between devices, but should not be considered as a viable backup option.

if i don't have a running system i have to find one. otherwise what am I going to restore upon? a system that can be restored-upon is a system that can be booted with media. if my macrium or other/better image is on anything... sd, ssd, hdd, cloud, whatever, the image still has to be fetched, at which point we burn incense and hope that restore works, which in many cases doesn't when one needs it. I had a lot of confidence in macrium until recently. now wondering what else is out there that is more stable

Back to the real point: is onedrive reliable? i think not. no one is speaking to that question which tells me we do not trust onedrive to upload things correctly. I saw it live yesterday, and will be working it again this morning but now I'm in a situation where I have to manually compare folders/files data. at least if it were local I could run a compare tool.

Not much sense in having an image stored in the cloud when your computer packs it in ... no internet, no image !!

Create the boot USB drive, and store (i.e. backup) your image on an external USB drive. Ready to go in case of failure. (Bit like the incident came across recently ... user couldn't remember the Bitlocker password ... "Where is it?" .. "It's in a text file stored on my computer ... !!) Uh duh !!

It works (unless you've done something wrong). End of story.
